On another note, I have been volunteering to plan our office birthday luncheon for the past several months. I have not been given any sort of budget but I still try and be reasonable about it. Some coworkers have jokingly, or not jokingly, suggested I go crazy on the food but in practice we often end up with too much leftovers and some folks in the office will not eat leftovers. To me it is just a complete waste to buy way more than we need and I can only imagine some coworkers simply want to take advantage of the extra free food.
