The one that doesn't say A New Hope. The one that doesn't have the ring around the explosion.

I found a CBS FOX video tape of Star Wars over a decade ago at a flea market.

I think so.

About 12 years ago I found a 6 disc set of the original trilogy. 3 discs were the most updated versions at the time and 3 were the theatrical versions.

I stupidly sold it for $20 a few years later.

I've never watched any of the Stars Wars films from beginning to end....they're boring.

I went to see RETURN OF THE JEDI in theaters when I was like 8 years old and fell asleep.

There's a Star Wars Demastered floating around the internet somewhere. All 3 of the original trilogy in HD with all of the edits and extras Lucas put in over the years removed. It's actually really nice.

I think I saw the original version in like 95 or 96 when it aired on christmas day the entire trilogy on the USA Network. I remember cause that was when I finally saw star wars for the first time. for whatever reason I had never watched it until then. and then I am pretty sure the remasters with the changed scenes came out in 1997

I definitely saw it pre-special edition, but I thought A New Hope was pasted in on all the home videos, even though we all just called it Star Wars.

Tapes released after ESB were printed that way I believe but if you get your hands on one of the original tapes, p sure it just says Star Wars.

I'm over a thousand miles away from my tape though so can't verify

The answer to all these posts is, no, you have not seen the original 77 version. Remember the original release didnt even say episode iv in the opening crawl.
To memory, the tape i saw didn't say Episode IV but I also cannot verify

You're talking about Harmy's despecialized edition. That's impossible to find anymore. I tried. I tried really hard.

But a lot of people have forgotten that they officially released DVDs in 2005, that are the exact same thing. HD, extras removed. You can get a used copy on Amazon for around $80. If you read the reviews, people will tell you they got ripped off, and that's because the reviews for both editions go to the same place on Amazon for some reason. If you're looking at the one that is $80 for a used copy, you're looking at the right one.

That was probably about the third version by then.

https://retromedialibrary.fandom.com/wiki/Home_video_timeline_for_the_Star_Wars_films

Per this, the CBS FOX release was the second release. Which was after ROTJ so it'd be believable that it'd say at least A New Hope

Have the 1990s VHS ones with the Yoda, Vader and Trooper faces on the boxes.

And the DVD ones with the color corrections for the OT.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Changes_in_Star_Wars_re-releases

1981: Star Wars was re-released, with the addition of subtitles "Episode IV" and "A New Hope".

Considering even the original rental release of ANH was in 1982... it's very believable that all home releases of ANH were labeled as such

Here, I took some photos of my TV in case anyone thinks I'm mistaken.

Original 20th Century Fox logo

Original Lucasfilm logo

Star Wars. No "Episode IV - A New Hope"

There you go. $80 for a used set. Ignore the reviews. People are pissed off because they bought the wrong edition. For some reason the reviews for the $20 version go to the same page. (There's a space in the link after "theatrical" and "keywords")
