He was trying to frame this as people don't care if they have money or not they want to put the health and well-being of the public first, to the detriment of themselves, with indefinite closures.

What the statistics are actually saying is that these are mostly low paid people in the services or unskilled manual labor industries who are actually having a better life for themselves now that they get paid more to do nothing and don't have to slave away at a job they hate for meager wages.

I really want to get laid off. At my job I would be making around 1800/m CAD, but if I were to be laid off, that would increase to a bit over 2k/m CAD. Not to mention that I'm being processed for a program that will pay for my college bills while I stay at home and "isolate". I like working, but its become far too stressful right now. Bosses are on their toes, acting like assholes even more, combined with college work its just too much to deal with. I'd rather just deal with the college bit for now.

You need to work and be productive to have a society going. What you're seeing here is a temporary fantasy land that is going to take a long time to recover from. If you think just handing out all this money won't have any ramifications in the future you're in for a rude awakening.

of course they do.

but there are consequences for not working. if everybody did it, life providing services will be scarce. someone has to do it. theyve been doing their jobs of farming transporting stocking and selling production

we simply arent there yet. i believe in automation that we can eventually move to resource production automation with little to no human presence. new jobs new work and more people doing something else to benefit everybody. eventually...

Somehow people are talking about how people are making more money being unemployed and blaming the workers instead of the system that fucks up paying workers so badly. Maybe people should be supported so we can actually properly address this pandemic, and maybe we should pay people more when they do work.

Anyway, anyone in favor of opening up is stupid as fuck, regardless of how much money they are currently making. You can't fight nature. All you can do is endure and then pick up the pieces on the other side.

If crybabies out protesting wanted to work every fast food, grocery store, walmart, sams, costco, and targert are hiring. Along with damn near every business that is considered essential. The people protesting don't want work or of they do, they don't want to do actual work. That they consider that sort of work to be beneath them. They want to go back to their nice cushy office jobs and force the service industries that are closed to go back to catering to their needs.

No one's surprised. If anything it's validating. The mantra 6 months ago was that life is about living not working, and now we see "living" means spend as much time as possible in front of a a screen doing as little as possible while taking the fruits of the efforts of others to survive. I'm not even seeing people start doing all the great things they swore they'd do if they weren't bogged down by having to go to work: get in shape, learn new skills, write that book, read that book. They just fight to do nothing and will forever.

Most jobs in the U.S. are useless and we produce a massive overabundance of supplies/resources such as food. We could easily rework everything to the point where were doing 20 hour work weeks and getting paid more to do it.

Or alternatively, we're overworked and underpaid ourselves because we have far too many people fighting to keep low skil jobs around instead of rising to fill jobs in higher demand, or worse, are low skilled people making mistakes I have to take extra time and effort out of my day to fix. We'd love more spare time, but things need to get done and not enough people are rising up to meet the needs of the business or community they're in, and we get to make up the shortfall. Why should I work a 8 hour day + 2 hours transportation + several hours doing errands, household chores, and other necessities of life to have just enough time and energy to pass out in bed while someone else gets to spend all that time playing video games? Why do socialists only want to socialize money, not effort?

Oh right, comments like yours shows a lack of growth beyond seeing chore and homework as old people punishing their kids for being young, not preparation for when it's your turn to run things.
