where does the assumption itt that these people are all making much more money on unemployment than in work come from

I mean, I definitely am and I'd imagine many, many more people are in the same boat.

Granted, that's only because of the bonus $600 but still.

The majority of people dont want to rush things regardless of their employment status. People would much rather be safe.
Yeah but let's ignore that part of the poll! Unemployed people bad!

Try, "my life could have some leisure and your life could have some leisure if we split the work evenly too, but instead you want all leisure while I get all work" instead of something rooted in thinking work is some kind of punishment.
Very few people do all leisure in a normal time. In fact, a lot of low wage workers have little of it. Not all work is punishment, but a lot of it is thankless and only exists because it can. It's not bettering people, just draining them at low pay so others can make a lot of money

The fact they're getting the equivalent of $15 an hour on top of their state benefit amounts.

And these amounts aren't subject to FICA taxes.

Long-term UI does tend to create a "surprise" around income tax time, though.

I wonder what the next narrative is.
Their next narrative is actually a weird one: Don't count on a vaccine ever being developed

I've seen this idea mentioned a lot from the open-everything people over the last few weeks, attempts to basically say the virus will be something like HIV and society should just go back to what it was before and accept this will always be around. Yes, it seems backwards at first. You'd think they would be far more optimistic about a vaccine since they supposedly just want a return to normalcy. The news has been largely good about potential vaccines moving quickly through the trial phases, so why the push to downplay them?

But it makes sense when you realize how much overlap there is between the open-everything crowd and the ownership class in America. They don't want consumers sheltering and limiting their spending for another 6 to 18 months. They want immediate profits, immediate return to normal and the vaccine is too far away for their liking. "Life is about taking risks, so go out there and make me some money."

A lot of people dont understand that people living off unemployment checks dont have health insurance and other taxes deducted which they'll have to pay next tax season which is why "people are getting paid more than before for not working". They're not saving either and spending that money on useless garbage and bills. And seeing how a little over half of Americans have little to no retirement and are terrible with money in general ... What do you think will happen when tax season rolls around?

"B-b-but I didnt know I had to pay taxes for this! Now I dont have enough money to even for pay for rent or my mortgage!!!"

Before next year, expect the homeless population to even be higher.

Interesting, I wonder how many people earning and hopefully saving far more now, with all the time in the world now are taking this opportunity to turn their lives around....

You're kinda talking out of your ass.

I've only been furloughed from my job, so I still retain benefits (and my employee discount as well).

And I already opted to have taxes deducted from my unemployment checks. It still comes out to one week's worth of unemployment being roughly (if not, then slightly more than) the same amount as a biweekly check from my job.

My money is literally doubling.

If people were living paycheck to paycheck before the pandemic that certainly hasn't changed once the pandemic started.

Some, but not all since they dont have to live worrying about losing their job, paying the bills and ending up homeless for the time being.

And for the first time since maybe highschool can take a breather and start thinking ahead rather then living for today and dying tomorrow.
