This is a topic to rate the contest strength of potential newcomers in the current contest environment.

I will pick the characters to rate and discuss for each day from user nominations - whoever the 3 most nominated characters are at that time. If there are more than 3 I will pick randomly. You can nominate any number of characters at any time, but you cannot nominate the same character twice.

All characters who were present in the 2018 Character Battle will NOT be eligible. Otherwise you can nominate any character that has appeared in video games; even comic book characters. This will exclude real-life athletes who have only appeared in long running sports series, however I will accept those who have their own games such as Shaq. I will accept nominations for iconic gaming duos too, if there is a compelling reason for both characters to be linked (either co-starring in a game ala Banjo & Kazooie, or always appearing together like Callie & Marie from Splatoon).

Each day will have a separate topic, and nominations will carry over. As far as actually rating the character's contest strength; I ask that users rank a characters potential strength with one of the following qualifiers - LAW Fodder, Low Fodder, Mid Fodder, High Fodder, Fodder Line, Low Midcarder, Midcarder, High Midcarder, Near Elite, Elite, LAW Tier (capable of beating Link). I will average all the ratings given to a character to come up with their final ranking. I have included a highlighted entrant from Character Battle X on each tier of the strength rankings below, to provide a baseline for each.

Note that LAW Fodder is meant to be a tier reserved for the weakest possible characters to put into a contest. A character will only be placed there if at least 3/4ths of the voters for that day agree on the LAW Fodder rating, and no ratings above Low Fodder are given. If either of those conditions are not met, the character will not be eligible for the LAW Fodder tier.

Vector the Crocodile (Sonic series) - Low fodder - Another of Sonic's little furry (scalie?) friends. He's never been in a game that's worth a damn (a 32x spinoff, of all things, and appearances in Heroes, Shadow, and Forces), and even Sonic's upper echelon - Tales, Knuckles, and Shadow - aren't particularly strong. I don't believe he's worth anything.

Ashley (WarioWare series) - High fodder - Who's the girl next door living in the haunted mansion? Ashley! She has a prominent role in the Warioware series, and is probably the third most popular character (after Wario and Mona), despite not debuting until the third game. Of course, Warioware isn't nearly as popular as it used to be (the last game was 3DS exclusive during the dying days of that system.) She had a big fan push for inclusion as a playable character in Smash (not as big as Ridley, K. Rool, or even Isaac, but a 200 page thread on Smashboards isn't nothing), and managed to get an assist trophy and costume in both Smash 4 and Ultimate, a regular trophy in 4, and a spirit in Ultimate also. I think high fodder seems a reasonable place to put her.

Sulley (Monsters, Inc.) - Low Fodder - His isn't really one of those Pixar movies people bring up as a favorite, and I'm not sure if a character from a 2000s era kids movie is going to click with this site's users.

Agree with Low Fodder for Vector.

Ashley is not really Gamefaqs' type of character and I don't think Warioware is very strong as a series here. But her insanely catchy theme song being in multiple Smash games and her popularity as both a potential Smash character and among certain Nintendo circles should be enough to get her to Mid Fodder.

We ranked Mike Wazowski as mid fodder and I say Sully is Mid Fodder too. Monster's Inc may not be a top tier Disney movie but it is very likely more popular on this site than something like Frozen. I think 2005 or so is when we can start doubting the popularity of high and mid tier Disney movies on the site.

I think all three of these characters are Low Fodder, but close to Mid Fodder.

Vector strikes me as the most popular and appealing of the Sonic characters who've risen to prominence after Adventure 2, and he has a bit of nostalgic appeal too, from an irrelevant game granted.

Ashley does have a fanbase, but she's still limited by being a side character from a rather niche series (who wasn't introduced until the third game in said series), and Assist Trophies and the like don't build that appeal any further.

Sulley seems to be just a bit less popular and iconic than Mike, which is enough to make a difference when both are this close to a tier border.

Nominate Mona, Sypha Belnades, Theodore Roosevelt, and Wolf Link, and rerank Charmander.

Ashley - low fodder

Warioware is just probably not worth much and Genos long-running prominent support for getting into Smash never amounted to much strength even on this site, where Super Mario RPG is a borderline top 20 game. Hard to see it signifying much strength for Ashley. If Warioware was alive and actually really popular, itd Be another story.

Sulley - mid fodder, borderline though.
