Should his demands be met?

A user, by the name of ThatGuy4913 who supposedly wrote a Persona 2 walkthrough on gamefaqs is now asking for it to be REMOVED because he's now a BORN AGAIN CHRISTIAN and the values he now has goes against everything the game represents..such as demons and DEATH and no longer supports or play video games that goes against god's rules in life...

He claims he agreed to the site rules that every faq is to remain on the site once you write it but is asking for an exception..

Should his demands be met?

Religions are cults. Very popular, long-lasting cults, that have always exhibited cult-like behaviour - like controlling thoughts, controlling behaviour, demonising non-conformity, being anti-education and anti-science, revising history, taking a book of books of mythology and fairytales meant to be taken figuratively seriously and literally.

Cults should be eliminated for the wellbeing of their victims and future would-be victims.

I believe the teachings of Jesus Christ are the recipe for world peace. Unfortunately, organized religion and their corruption of said teachings, will not allow that.

In any case, I can be considered a Christian and I fucking LOVE SMT: Nocturne, baby! Fucking amazing game! And Id buy a remaster on current consoles if they made one.

Looks like he's taking a stand against demons, the biggest problem in our society. Let's not focus on political corruption or man made problems, let's fix imaginary ones made by demons.

Because the all powerful all knowing god isn't powerful or knowing enough to keep those pesky demons from trolling humans without leaving any kind of evidence behind, leading to all sorts of shenanigans, such as Pokemon, D&D, atheism, natural disasters, Persona 2, Persona 2 user guides...

Given that he wasn't compensated for his work, I imagine if he hired a lawyer the site would probably pull the faq rather than bother going through a lawsuit.

EDIT: And it looks he CAN have his stuff removed-
"Your FAQ, Review, Save, and Top 10 List contributions on GameFAQs are your copyrighted works, and you can request they be removed at any time, as long as they have not won a contribution contest."

Which I was pretty sure you could do, so I'm not sure what this other crap is about.

No, religions aren't cults any more than countries are families. Just because something shares some of the same traits are a larger thing doesn't make the two the same thing in different size. Second, and more importantly, almost everything you described could also apply to government considering it's also anti-science, public education is more babysitting than education, and policy is often directed by books of fairy tales not meant to be taken seriously which is where we get many socialist ideas.

lolwut? "Any"? He's complaining about one very specific thing. If his complaint is about media featuring demons, that leaves countless films not featuring demons.

Voted Yes before reading "he agreed to the site rules that every faq is to remain on the site once you write it"
So that's one Yes vote you can disregard.

I don't give a crap about his beliefs or whatever taboos he may have been indoctrinated into, that's his business, not mine. However, if it's his work, his wishes regarding it should be honored, unless he's bound to an agreement to the contrary, which seems to be the case here. If he really wants to consider himself born again, then the actions of the person who wrote that FAQ are the actions of a different person, not the person he is now, and he needs the strength to be able to accept that.

The only difference between a cult and a religion is the amount of people in it. (even Christianity was once considered a cult by Jewish people and Romans)
Both only follow rules laid down by the Leader (the religion's chosen god or some religious leader)
Both pretty much require lifetime commitments
Both claim those that break the rules will receive a 'penalty' after death (funny how they "know" what the penalty will be, considering nobody has ever actually been proven to have returned after dying and told what the "penalties" are....)

If the site does state that you agree that every FAQ remains on this site when you submit it he has 0 legal ground to stand on. He would have a better chance getting the site owner to convert to his line of thinking then take GameFAQ's down because a good chunk of video games are against Christianity.

Kinda daft that he cited religion as the reason for wanting its removal as saying "I've since replayed the game and realised i made a massive error in *insert world here* that's plainly false" would've more likely given him the result he was after.
Then again one has to have a flimsy grasp of reality if they refuse to grow out of believing in fairytales.

Oh. Well, it wasn't in either the story Ducky presented which also suggests that *all* FAQs posted to the site are beholden to stay up (which they aren't) or in the screencap of his post.

Monopoman posted...

It would be virtually unenforceable in the absence of compensation and the site would certainly cave once a lawyer was involved.

Funny, because you just described government except for that last bit which doesn't apply to every religion (although I think it could be true of all of the world's remaining major religions) let alone every cult. And like I said, claiming that a religion vs a cult is based on the number of members is like claiming that a country vs a family is based on the number of members.

I mean, I think that's really silly to be against. I really don't think it's a sin to like a video game about "demons", most of which are just fictional characters.

But no matter what, yea if he wants it gone, it should be gone. It's his work, he should decide what happens to it
