Terminator did it first and it was also established in Days of Future Past, but ever since Endgame popularized it as a "yeah we're going to actually do this" plot device, I feel like it's now the mainstream accepted go-to answer for any last stand/everyone's dead/writer's block plot scenario in things like Mortal Kombat, Star Trek, Spider-Man, and Justice League.

Compared to 15 years ago when we all thought the paradoxes and multiverses in comics were interesting but also very very stupid. idk I'm probably just being a boomer here reacting to Apokolips War, which was pretty damn great *shrug*

It's a pretty fun setup honestly. If it's not the kind of story that needs to be taken seriously, I'm a fan. Like I'm pretty sure Wolfenstein 3 will go this route, and I think it'll be cool.

I'm aware of HG Wells, but I'm keeping it restricted to just popular film and tv things that hesitated using those kind of paradoxes in plot before Endgame.
