Good game everyone. In light of actually making the top 50 for the first time in forever, I decided to list all my matches that I picked incorrectly. How the hell did I screw up so bad?

The Walking Dead vs. Bastion
Pretty clear that picking a GOTY contender and critical darling (TWD won GOTY in many places) does not equate to a game even making it past the first round. I thought everyone forgot about Bastion, nobody ever even talks about that game anymore or Transistor. But I guess more people forgot TWD.

Undertale vs. Octopath Traveler
See above. Undertale is so popular but I think OT being newer and a Switch JRPG by Square gave it an edge. Even though Undertale also released on the Switch the same year...eh...I don't think it generated as much buzz though.

Dragon Age: Inquisition vs. Ori and the Blind Forest
Again, being a triple A release probably doesn't equate to winning these contests. Ori being released on the Switch recently probably helped its chances, and nowadays people really don't like DA: I and remember it for all the bad things. I myself only put 10 hours into it before getting bored, but I do have Ori sitting on my Switch unplayed.

Stardew Valley vs. Destiny
More indie domination. I have no damn clue why I picked Destiny, knowing that mainstream games don't tend to do well in these contests. Still, despite having a huge fanbase I'm surprised that Stardew Valley did that well.

Uncharted 4 vs. Mario Kart 8
This was my facepalm downfall. I have no idea why I picked a PS4 GOTY over a popular Switch Mario game. I guess I thought because I know God of War would do well so would Uncharted 4.

Celeste vs. Rayman Legends
Another GOTY contender mistake. Honestly surprised Rayman won though, considering that the indies have been dominating this contest for the most part (Undertale notwithstanding).

Borderlands 2 vs. Horizon Zero Dawn
I underestimated HZD's strength and that's probably because I didn't like it and my inherent biases got the better of me. Facepalm.

Spiderman vs. Minecraft
See above.

Undertale vs. Shovel Knight
Undertale and Uncharted 4 are my bigger mistakes in this contest.

Persona 4 Golden vs. Red Dead Redemption
I'm surprised that either RDR game didn't do as well as I thought, considering GTA usually does really well and RDR are better games. I wonder why? I found RDR2 amazing, but it gets a lot of hate, but the same is not entirely true of RDR1. And while P4 is popular, I didn't think it would make it past a triple A Rockstar game.

Fallout: New Vegas vs. Dark Souls III
I haven't played all the Souls game but I figured that anything Souls related would automatically make it far. But I guess Souls III is usually the redheaded stepchild of the series.

Portal 2 vs. Kingdom Hearts III
KH is Square and has a loyal fanbase, and Portal 2...came out in 2010? I think I thought the older the game was the poorer it would do.

Final Fantasy XIV vs. Uncharted 4

Monster Hunter World vs. Dragon Quest XI
Pretty surprised at how well DQXI did.

Grand Theft Auto 5 vs. Persona 4 Golden
I guess P4 is just as popular as P5. I made the mistake of thinking it would be killed by RDR, but thought that it stood less of a chance against GTA5. Rockstar isn't faring too well here.

Xenoblade Chronicles vs. Fire Emblem Three Houses
This one is weird. Fire Emblem has a gigantic fanbase and following here and in many other circles of the Internet, and FE3H came out not too long ago and people are still talking about it and playing it. And while both are Nintendo releases, I still think FE is just an overall better series than Xeno. But maybe the upcoming Definitive Edition helped Xeno's chances.

Kingdom Hearts III vs. Red Dead Redemption 2
I severely overestimated Kingdom Hearts.

Pokemon HeartGold vs. Nier Automata
I probably should have seen this coming and I didn't realize that this is the only Pokemon game on the list over the last 10 years when I picked Nier over it.

Grand Theft Auto 5 vs. Fire Emblem Three Houses
My last fail. Now that I think about it, I think that Xenoblade could've taken out GTA5.
