FotR is free on Prime but the extended version costs $4. Is it worth me paying for the extended version?

I've watched both versions, and I swear I could hardly tell any difference. It seems like in the extended edition, it's mostly just 15 or 20 seconds of extra footage of existing scenes rather than any new scenes. I wouldn't pay 4 dollars for it.

No. The extended editions are filled with pacing breaking fluff that only exists as references to the books without having their proper context present in the films.

That said, the extended version of FotR is by far the best one of them. It's still very tight in its pacing, and it has one scene that without, it doesn't make sense that one character knows the name of another character in Two Towers.

Watch theatrical first and if you enjoy it, watch extended later. Theatrical version is just as good.

Theatrical for Towers and Return. Possible extended for Fellowship, but it doesn't matter much.

No.
Its just pointless extra scenes thats add nothing to the story.
I think RotK ran more than 4 hours in the extended version.

I think I'll do this. All 3 are free on Prime so if I like them I'll get the extended versions

man you're in for a treat.

i just say go for the extended editions since you'll most likely be completely fatigued watching them back to back that you wouldn't wanna return to them any time soon.

then again if you have to fork out money for them then the normal editions are good enough.

No. Save the extended versions for rewatches.

RotK in particular had a certain entrance that I thought was awesome in theater because we hadnt seen these characters in a while. But in the extended version theres an extra scene showing how they got there that I think ruins the surprise.

This is what I would recommend too-- but as a fan of the books, I only watch the extended versions now. Saw the originals in theater & that was pretty much it for me.
