Current Events > Anyone else actually better off during lockdown?

Still working from home. I was supposed to get laid off from my job in May, completely unrelated to COVID, but they keep extending me because of the impact it's having. Wife is a server/bartender who is still working takeout orders. She's getting a better wage doing takeout compared to serving/bartending. Customers who feel bad for people in the service industry are being surprisingly generous with tips.

Since all the bars and restaurants are closed, we're not eating out or drinking out. It's forced us to have more groceries at home and to eat healthier by default. We keep alcohol at home but drink significantly less than when the bars were open.

We have more money in savings than ever because of all of this, and a second round of stimulus COVID cash will only make things better. While working from home, because I don't have to commute to work downtown every day, I have more time and energy than ever. I'm able to get laundry and stuff done during the day while working from home. I have more time to exercise by jogging/walking especially with the weather getting warmer, combine with the lack of eating out and eating healthier at home we're both losing weight.

I don't want my old life back. I actually enjoy all of this. >.>

I am making less money, but I don't have to go to my 2nd job and get less hours at my 1st job thus having more free time to play video games.

I'm the same way. I make more money, and I don't have to go back and forth to work all the time. Just a couple times a week tops, then I can sit at home and work when needed. I'm loving it. Also noticeably less traffic on the roads so it's just all around great.

I'm getting paid to basically sit at home and playing games. I'm saving a bit of money by not buying Metrocards nor eating out with my friends. I don't think this lifestyle will continue if there are 0 customers at my job for the last 2 months.

The stimulus check helped out a lot, and I managed to pick up a better paying job

I make more money, work out more, sleep more, spend less. I spend all morning exploring trails in the mountains and all afternoon playing video games and hanging out with my wife. Gonna go on a road trip with my buddies soon

Were both wfh and saving about $1k a month. My husband got a $14k raise and promotion too. Ive been shopping less. We are very fortunate to be doing well. We try to limit ordering out but when we do, we tip generously.

Yeah I like it way better, save more money working from home, places are less crowded
