when i was younger i would drink a ton of fizzy drinks inc cola, but now it's mostly when i drink alcohol

squash is my treat but water is my default drink (when it's not alcohol)

"Coke" is the other way to say it. Don't get why people have an issue with either way really.

Coke is the generic term in the South.

I always understood Cola to be dark sodas (Coke, Dr. Pepper, Pepsi).

Soda and Pop were the generic terms I always heard for any carbonated soft drink.

I usually only drink soda a few times a month if that. Usually fruity water or tea or coffee for me

i said cola to include both coke and pepsi, but i guess people recognise the brand coke more as the drink

same as me, or fanta fruit twist which is rly good. i try to stay away from fizzy drinks because they rot your teeth

i think it's down to american culture, not english language tbh. i know in america they tend to use certain brand names for stuff more than the product like kleenex, coke, xerox, etc

ill drink the orange coke or cherry coke maybe once a month, regular coke a few times a year maybe. It goes amazing with a ham sandwich and chips.

I cant even estimate the last time I had a Pepsi. Its gross to me.

Mountain Dew though Ill have one of those every day.

Only a few times a year. This past year was an exception because people I was around constantly had them and sometimes I would just drink one. Sometimes I drink one when I go to my parents house, but I almost never buy a box of them. I have one ginger ale in the refrigerator that Ive been saving.

i call "soda" fizzy drinks, but over here it's regional based on where you live. there's probably like 5 different terms for it throughout the country

i guess, but that's what language is. the culture of the ppl who speak it.

if most english speakers would find it weird if i were to say "cola" then that is a trait of the language i should probably keep in mind

Evidently a nickname they started officially using in the 40's.

I guess was something people just shortened it to already beforehand.

As someone who had it almost constantly growing up, I quit in 2015. My family still drinks it every meal though.

to be fair i've tried drinking spirits straight now rather than with cola or any other mixer. ginger ale is my default now
