Yes there are auctions, but it's also a full online store with set prices and items you can buy just like Amazon. I generally prefer ebay, but Amazon has extremely fast shipping. And since I live by an Amazon center, returns aren't much of a hassle.

Amazon is cheaper typically. Also has faster shipping and is more reliable. eBay is comprised of sellers of various feedback where Amazon is a corporate giant.

they've both been around since about the same time. i remember them around '96. ebay's gotten a lot better about scams though. back in the day if you got scammed it was "oh well sorry". i heard chinese ebay is crazy though.

With Amazon, if something isn't up to my standards I send an email then they apologize, tell me to keep it and refund my money. Ebay is more hassle than that.

I bought some stuff off ebay recently and it wasn't too bad. I'd hate to sell stuff on there though; seems way to easy to lose out on your money and your item.
