With shred its often so fast, and there is a fairly liberal use of if not effects in general then at least gain, that its mostly a matter of getting the speed up and like a cursory recognition of scales. Marrs playing is totally clean, just light chorus and a clean signal, and his left hand is incredibly precise and nimble while his right is downright fucking robotic. Its like looking at some kind of eldritch horror.

Im trying to get Girl Afraid down lmao

it doesnt help much that I havent actually -practiced- since I was like 12 so all my improvements for years have just been in my own janky-ass playing style lol. Its worked out well enough for me in bands, but it feels extremely limiting; used to not care that I cant solo for example, but more and more Im recognizing the importance in learning it even if I dont use if. Ive been telling myself Ill start practicing real things/re-learning for years but its just way too daunting. I wanna get better tho jesus
