You can get one other fruit on mystery islands but it will always be the same fruit. You mother also sends you a third unique fruit towards the beginning of the game. I think it is extremely rare, but villagers may gift fruit as well but I am not sure. I wish I had taken some "before" pics so I could remember what a mess it started out as. It's like OCD-organized now. All my houses and shops in one area, trees separated by fruit and non-fruit, destroyed a river and like 3 quarters of the cliffs, and useless campsite over where I never go. Now shaking my trees to find the wasps and furniture each day only takes me like 5 minutes instead of half an hour. So the only effect time traveling will have will be to help you identify locations where you've still screwed up quicker (instead of just once per day).
