Current Events > One time, I was jogging at 1am, and a police officer stopped me.

I had athletic gear on (including an armband for my phone) and two blinking lights (on the front and back, so I can be visible). I like to run at night, so went for a jog at around 12am-ish. Near the end of my jog, a police car turned on his lights (no sound), pulled up next to me, and asked what I was doing.

I told him I was clearly out for a run. He asked for my ID. I rejected saying that I was doing nothing that required me to show ID. He asked if I knew where I was, and whether or not I was lost. I told him I know where I am. He asked if I'm going to run back home now. I told him I haven't decided yet. He then told me to have a good run, turned off his lights, and went about his business.

One time, I was going over 100mph in a 45mph work zone and got pulled over (rightfully so). I exited the highway at the next exit, and entered a parking lot for his safety. After we came to a complete stop, I turned off my music, opened all my windows, and turned on all the interior lights (as it was getting dark outside) before the officer came to my side. He asked if I knew why he pulled me over, and I said that I was speeding. He asked if I knew how fast I was going, and I told him that I honestly don't know, but it is definitely well above the speed limit. He asked if I had any warrants, or if I had any other moving violations on my record. I told him no. He asked for my ID, registration, and insurance. I gave it to him. He then walked back to his car.

After what seemed like an eternity, he used his PA system to tell me to get out of the car. I thought I was being arrested (rightfully so, again). He told me to face forward, and walk backwards towards him. I did. When I got to his SUV, he told me to stop. He got out of his vehicle, then got behind me, and told me to turn around. He gave my documents back and told me to stop speeding, and that let this be a wake up call. He then got back into his SUV, and left... I was literally still standing there in shock. I never sped above +10mph the speed limit after that.

I've had at least several more experience with the police (nothing crazy as the above), and not one of them was negative. Hell, one time, I called the police over a snake on my property (I'm pretty sure I posted that on CE here).

while doing 100 in the 45 was reckless, there's nothing wrong with jogging late at night

i used to go for long walks during late nights - as late as 2-3 am - when i was younger

in retrospect i'm impressed that police never harassed me

I'm white and I use to get stopped all the time when I took trips to pick up my paycheck.

Payday was on my night off so I'd have to drive to get my check.

Anyway I had to drive through the bad side of town to get there.

My usual trip was like around 9:30PM and I never got bothered.

The other was like around 2:30AM.

I'd show my papers and license, then they'd ask me where I was going, where I've been, or if I'm lost or something.

Took 3 or 4 trips until they remembered my ride and the guys started leaving me alone.

I'm just glad it was always the same guys because if they regularly switched units for that area I would have been bothered all of the time.

true story. you know the speedometer signs on the highway that tell you how fast you're going? one time there was one in my neighborhood because they were setting up construction so me and 2 of my friends, one filipino and one black dude, were trying to see who was fastest. a cop car pulled up and said "i bet your friend there is the fastest" and I asked him which one. he pointed to the black kid. but it was the filipino guy who was fastest. seemed like a friendly enough cop and laughed as he drove away.

I've been in trouble with cops, but I can talk very very White and I have a friendly demeanor so I've sweettalked my way out of a few situatinos.
