A lot of AEW and indy wrestling fans trash WWE's awful comedy and rightfully so, but have no problem when AEW/indy promotions do the same kind of awful comedy. He did quote Cornette's lines, but many of us lapsed fans think the same way he does. I had the same opinions on wrestling before I became a fan of his. AEW is the most successful wrestling company on the planet from the point of view that its pleasing both TV companies (TNT) and fans (Mega butyrate for Double or Nothing)
All WWE is good for is providing shitty hours of crap wrestling for Fox and USA. They have no fans, no one buys their shows. At best people sign up for the free Network month. Cody is the fact of this success, the son of the son of a Plummer, wrestling is in his blood. Hes showing everyone that this is far from just McMahons game. It's such a shame because AEW gave the impression it was going to be a more "sports oriented" promotion that would be an alternative to WWE. Tony Khan and others referenced Mid-South wrestling more than once. I got immediately turned off by that opening battle royal on their first show. It turned out to be an indy show with a bigger budget that pretty much is WWE-lite.
