Yeahh I'm not trying to bring up the actual accident at all, just be more so generally encouraging to said person without being direct.

When it comes to trauma, it's not necessary. If they bring it up, keep it blunt and simple like "i'm sorry" and simply offer an ear. I'm not going to go into depth, but I had two tremendous tragedies in my life and the worst thing people can do is try to associate with it, try to compare with it, and try to draw out more conversation about it. The best thing to do is bring up a positive and move on from it.
