I'm only 16 hours in. Just finished chapter 8 (MMORPG stuff in sector 5) and starting chapter 9 (the route before Wall Market, I guess?).

I really like it so far. The weapon upgrade stuff seems really cool. Not sure how I feel about materia not birthing more materia when mastered (but they have less levels now and are super easy to level, so maybe that would've been OP). Also, the game gave me like 3 Lightning materia? I think it was prep for the Airbuster or something, but it was kinda ridiculous.

I think Tifa is by far the most fun to play. Aerith and Barret are probably the least fun. I don't know though. Everyone feels so sluggish. The enemies are zipping around like crazy, and I'm just trying to focus fire one down. Aerith would be fun if it didn't feel like the enemies only focused on whoever I was controlling (seriously, that arcane ward skill is cool AF, but the enemy always hounds me out of the AoE).

As for the new story stuff, I don't really care for a lot of it. That Roche guy seems really out of place. Everyone talks pretty normal, but he's too eccentric. Just doesn't feel right. Some of the new stuff like the flying invisible cloths and the robed reunion dudes in Midgar intrigue me a little. I thought it was strange Tifa didn't talk more about Marco.

The order in which details are revealed changed too. Not sure how I feel about it (such as Cloud remembering his promise to Tifa randomly during a mission with Biggs and Wedge rather than in the original when Tifa was calling out Cloud for leaving). Also, the part where Cloud was going to kill Johnny and Tifa later confessed that he was scaring her, HE SCARED ME TOO. WTF, CLOUD? JUST GONNA EXECUTE A DUDE RIGHT IN FRONT OF HER.

Also, I don't know if it's just me, but there's a huge contrast in the interactions between Cloud/Aerith vs Cloud/Tifa. With Aerith, he's very sarcastic and playful (I like a lot of their new interactions/dialogue). With Tifa, he's characteristically serious and uncharacteristically very sweet a lot of the time. I like the interactions with Tifa, but they feel odd. It seems like it'd be easier for her to open up if he's sweet to her all the time. The banter with Barret has been great. Lots of sarcasm there, so Cloud's relationship with Tifa must be the anomaly.

Anywho, just some thoughts. I have to be up for work tomorrow, so I probably won't be able to play for a while. I'll probably just be thinking about the game all day.
