It's worth remembering a lot of people have been stuck at home without the ability to work for months now. I'm sure that has played a part in trying to open up sooner. It's tough to riot on a tuesday night when you're closing and have to get up early the next morning.

If anything, this will probably accelerate openings nationwide as states try to get people back to work.

It sucks because NYC did a really good job of fighting it. And now this.

Interesting point, tbh.
I was kinda thinking about that to.
But from a different angle as I have been working throughout all of this.

you're acting as if most of the rioters and instigators have jobs to begin with.

id be more worried about opening up and then immediately getting fucked by rioters the same night.

in fact I work right near Rock center and from this morning till now there are people putting protection up all over stores with glass fronts.

seems silly to protect for 3 days when who knows when this will end.

It makes you wonder if the wise move would be to wait two more weeks just to see where things stand. That being said, that's probably not realistic. People are already restless, I don't think they'd be down with it. It sounds like Cuomo is open to shutting regions down again if they start failing his qualifications, so at least it will be a fluid situation.

I don't think it's a coincidence that the scope of protests (and by proxy, rioting/looting) is so much larger than past instances at the same time that unemployment is sitting at nearly 25%.

Speaking from Upstate New York, you are going to see a bunch of jobs skirt under the rules and open up. They says it's just those things, but it seems like everything opened up when Phase 1 started. Maybe it will be more strict in NYC since that was the epicenter, but if the rest of the state is anything to go by you will see more than you expect.

Open up just for everything to be destroyed. Id assume most of the looters and rioters are broke and/or unemployed anyways so Im sure they dont care.

Hopefully they arent dumb enough to end up destroying all the grocery stores or next theyll be rioting about there being no food.

With everyone gathering up, a devastating second wave of COVID-19 isn't just likely now - it's damn near inevitable.

I'm not condemning the purpose of these demonstrations, but I know things are going to get worse.

Ya, it's depressing. I really wish NYC had sat this one out.
I was hoping for that days ago.
Most of the protestors will probably be okay, but there is a very good chance some of their elders might not be.

We may or may not get a spike, but if we do it will truly be heartbreaking.
So much hard work, discipline, and patience totally blow in several nights.
We had our own fight, this one wasn't ours, not now.

Well, I've got to say, I am certainly glad that hasn't happened because a lot of those buildings have a ton of residential space as well.

The numbers are way down, and NYC remained a ghost town for about two months.
That is fairly unprecedented.

But part of that is because of how New York City is. It's densely populated and buses and subway use is almost mandatory. I agree they shouldhave shut down sooner, but once they did start taking it seriously they did a good job. All the stats show the city heading in the right direction at a rate better than most other cities in the country.

You're someone who still calls this the flu and downplays it with bogus information. Why should anyone give a shit about your opinion? When we were nearing 80k deaths, you said the CDC said we had 30k deaths even though their website said the 80k number was right. You have been factually wrong about everything with covid-19.
