A lot of the videos I have seen, the rioters were asking for it. A lot of other videos are suspiciously cut to not show the events that happened before the "assaults".

If the protests were actually peaceful, this behavior is absolutely unacceptable and criminal.

With the protests the way they are (looting, assaults, burning cars/buildings), I support all of the standard riot control measures like tear gas/pepper spray/rubber bullets. If people aren't taken to task for breaking the law and hurting innocent people, society will literally fall apart at the seams.

Trump could probably get a declaratory judgment out of them before he leaves office. Maybe the process could be something like this. First, fly to a country that would give him asylum. Then, order the AG to initiate a prosecution of Trump. Trump then pardons himself and pleads the pardon in court. He orders the AG to oppose that self-pardon, and whichever way the trial court rules both sides commit to appealing it to the Supreme Court. Then the Supreme Court has an actual case before it and should rule. If it goes against Trump, he stays in the asylum-granting country. If it goes in his favor, he returns.

I guess the problem with this plan is that Trump would have to give up on the principle of total presidential immunity based on the idea that all authority to charge people with crimes flows from the President, and the President cannot charge himself. If he's ordering his AG to charge him, he couldn't continue to maintain that position.

But it sounds good and is well formulated. The tl;dr is the 4 cops should be arrested, Floyd shouldn't have been killed. That said, Floyd wasn't a particularly good person either with a long criminal record and isn't a hero or marytr of some kind. Insert a variety of stats here.

You know, I suspect looting and rioting wouldn't be nearly as bad if:
-The media covered peaceful protests over looting/rioting
-Police didn't show up in riot gear in the daytime and intimidated peaceful protesters (while watching as looters walk away) not to mention shoving peaceful protesters and running into them with a car.
-We had a President who didn't call them 'thugs'.

Sometimes people do what you expect them to do because you expect them to do it.

I heard at these 3 times on the news the past 24 hours that the job report would be "grim"

Now most of these are going to be those first line layoffs that were gonna be brought back the second restrictions eased in the slightest. But yeah. Not the numbers we were anticipating at all. Very good to hear

We shouldn't defund police. In fact, we should pay them better. Attract more people to the job so that we get good police officers. What we should do, though, is demilitarize the police.

Well you know what? I think he can get away with that. That's a lot less than the 25% Hillary was talking about. And if Hillary framed it as 25% of Americans rather than 50% of my opponent's supporters she might have gotten away with it too. That word "half" was so emotionally powerful.
