AR-15s go from about $400+

The really cheap ones like Del Tons and shit like that are usually not made very well.

yeah iirc the decent ones are like 1500. Higher end watches can go for much more than that.

You can get a solid AR-15 by Ruger for around $600-700.

ehh you can get a "decent" one like an S&W sport for like $600.

$1500 is like a pretty high end one like a BCM or a Daniel Defense. There are more expensive ones of course.

And they aren't really comparable to watches imo as far as value. Functionality and durability are what make an AR-15 cost a lot of money. Watches are valued by the amount of precious metals, jewels, or collector value they have. There are old retro Colts that sell for a lot, but the buyers of those are gonna put them in a safe on on display. They aren't gonna spend thousands on a Vietnam XM177 and then take it out to the range and plink with it.

Ruger low end AR-15s have untreated/unlined barrels and the worst BCGs on the market. They don't even stake the gas key properly. I've seen 3 of their BCGs straight up blow up in the middle of range trips (none were mine, the only Ruger I have is a LCP 2 .380).

S&W sport 2 has melonite barrel and mil-spec BCG.

Spend a tad more and get a S&W Sport 2 or get a Palmetto State Armory with an FN barrel.

If you just want a pistol you're covered, you could get a halfway decent pistol and a cheap shotgun for $500.

Pfff.
I've seen the entire kit including an 80% go for about $220.

Or even $227 if you shopped around.
$27 for the completed lower
$35 for the parts kit
$50 for the BCG
$115 for the barreled upper.

If you're willing to find all the parts yourself and build it like a computer, you can do it for a lot less and throw an optic on.

I'm not talking about piece of shit Anderson, Bear Creek arms or Delton/Remington shit that breaks after 500 rounds or won't even run a whole mag without having to clear a malfunction.

You get what you pay for and that does not exclude AR-15 parts. These shitty kits are the reason why the AK supremacists try to shit all over AR-15 owners.

when it comes to AR's the $350-600 range will get you a decent weekend warrior setup. theyll go bang, but arnt anything fancy. i wouldnt want to drop into afghanistan or the jungle with one of these, but there fine for range use and needing something in a pinch. $800-1000 tend to get you better finishes, tighter tolerances with (theoretically) more reliability. $1000-1500 usually offer the whole packages with better extras (higher quality sites, hand guards, charging handles ect.). this price range tends to be ideal for a serious setup, anything more and you will be seeing significant returns outside of (imo) knights armament stuff. of course this also doesnt include stuff like optics which is a whole other ball of wax.
