Actually, let me put that out there as a question: does the right to peacefully assemble in the interest of protesting remain even if hooligans hijack the efforts to cause chaos? Can a government rescind that right if the people carrying it out cannot be trusted to have well-intentioned individuals in their ranks?

Why would it ever not remain unless you are a government trying to become a dictatorship? This is all in response to continued brutality and oppression from the police and justice system and depriving people of their rights is how you slip towards that dictatorship.

Using the excuse of "for your own good" is what they all say, and is something any "freedom loving" American should stand up if they actually give a shit about the values they constantly preach and claim they are the best for having.

People have the right to speak up and the government (should) rule at their behest, not at their own whims and desires.

Because I'm describing a scenario that is not about assembling in the interest of peaceful protest? That's not a constitutional right if you show up to smash windows and turn over cars (though I'm not denouncing rioting, I'm simply pointing out that it's wrong, I have my own personal feelings on the practice that isn't relevant to this discussion).

Maybe this is a little black and white to look at it like this but a group that escalates a peaceful protest to something that isn't forfeits the right to assemble and the government saying "we're not going to let you gather" isn't overstepping.

The government wants you to think like this, or start thinking like this so they can justify crackdowns.

They are the ones escalating force, not others. You CAN NOT condemn people for not just cowering from police brutality and when they rise up against it you should stand with them and not the one escalating and brutalising innocent people.

Brother Im fine and thanks for all of your concern. I sprained my foot running from the cops and have been out of commission for 2 days. I also have been getting backlash from my family not because theyre against protesting, but because Im on a special visa that they fear it will be taken away if Im caught so I got many calls about that, theyre kind of right but Im stubborn.

ill be out again today if anyone in NYC wants to come. Washington square park @ 4 PM. Its supposed to thunderstorm today though but it looks like people dont care.

Like I said, stay safe out there. From my what I've seen and read NYPD is kettling hundreds of people at a time now, including essential workers who aren't protesting and are just trying to get to and from work.
