Teacher A: very knowledgable but also very strict. Not mean or abusive, but very strict. Your child scores well on tests and grows a lot as a learner. But they are visibly upset about being in that class. Hate the teacher, and are very vocal about disliking school because of it.

Teacher B: below average with content knowledge but extremely passionate. Child's test scores seem to stagnate and mininal growth is achieved. Not goofing off or going backwards, but just not great. But the teacher is loved by your child, and they feel extremely supported. Child can't wait to go to school every day.

The obvious answer is to force Teacher A and Teacher B to breed and create Teacher C.

elementary school is mostly about socializing kids, anyway.

I had a third grade teacher who was really into music, so she'd often have us sing and show us musicals, and she made school an enjoyable place to be.

I remember her more than I remember the teachers that made us learn cursive, long division, etc.

Teacher A sounds like the teacher from that PBS show Arthur. >_>

Anyway, teacher a is better, because their job is to make kids learn something. Not only that, it's good life preperation, their students' future bosses aren't gonna give a flying fuck about their feelings.

Yeah, and from TC's own descriptions, the kid seems to do better in a strict class. whereas a less strict teacher they don't make progress.

In terms of my theoretical kid though, the laid back one is fine. I would just get them a tutor anyway.

Both are somewhat necessary but A needs to loosen up a bit while b needs to get their shit together. A is possibly disastrous because those types tend to railroad kids who aren't good little boys and girls.
