Pay closer attention to the dialog in the final scenes. That's what people who misunderstand the ending fail to do.

iirc, the flash sideways thing represented a person (or persons) who died somewhere along the way, where they were in some kinda pocket dimension thing that allowed them to come to grips with the fact that they died, and so that they could connect with others that they had created bonds with on the Island as they crossed over

so someone could have died on the Island a while back, or they could have died fifty years later somewhere else, for example

Luckily LOST ended after that perfect season 5 ending and they definitely didn't do some weird purgatory thing after that.

I never even watched the show, and I saw a clip of the ending many years ago, and I understood this concept just off of the explanation given to me. I don't see why it's hard to grasp.

It's explained pretty clearly at the end by Christian when they meet up at the church. What happened, happened, and they were the most important people to each other. If they died during the crash, they wouldn't be important to one another. The sideways was just a waste of time they somehow created to wait for the rest to die off and move on together.

It's pretty clear what's being said here.

I can read topic upon topic abuot the Lost ending and have no fucking clue what happened in the Lost ending, but staying unspoiled about Game of Thrones ending despite avoiding any topic, article or report on it is just fucking impossible.

they were dead during that particular sequence, but not because they died on the island/during the crash. They died, separately, at some point in time, in some place, somewhere, anywhere, and they met one another in some alternative dimension that defied time and space so they could cope with their lives and experiences together one last time before moving on.

They weren't dead for the entire show.

Just go on a spoiler the whole dam thing for me, I'll never watched it. I watched the first episode when it was aired and it was epic but 10 minutes into the second episode it was over for me, too much bull shit and dragging of feet.

what is the island?

do the people make it back home?
