I see that Cold Steel 3 switch port is coming out at the end of the month. So my question to the JRPG crowd is if this series is worth getting into?

Im currently working through the Tales series, and then I have Xenoblade Chronicles to play. So Im wondering if its worth adding more to my plate here.

Yes it's worth it, play Trails in the Sky FC then SC first

It is. While you can start with Cold Steel, it is best to start with Trails in the Sky to get the most out of the series and then play the Crossbell games, then Cold Steel.

As someone that is playing CS3 right now, and started the journey from Sky FC I can honestly say you really should play the sky games first. CS1+2 doesnt really have a ton of sky cameos, but CS3 is just constant cameos back to back - enough so that I felt like I would be missing out if I hadnt already played those games.

Ive done a lot of research and it doesnt look like Ill have the means to play Sky first, so I might just have to start with Cold Steel 1

I'm extremely biased when it comes to this series

But yes it's an amazing RPG series, take your time with it and soak in the world. Some people think they have to rush to get to the latest releases as if they'll disappear if they don't hurry

Again, as long as it was made in the last 16 years, you can play the Sky trilogy.

I've heard many times that the series has an absolutely incredible plot and character development, but I'm worried it's too slice of life for me. I don't need to have death and sadness all around but I'm definitely not a fan of happy-go-lucky JRPS for the most part

The only parts of the series that have what I'd consider slice of life are Cold Steel 1&3. And that's really only the beginning part of each chapter. Other than that you'll usually be progressing through the story, though the pace at which you do that depends entirely on how much you want to talk to the NPCs or how many optional quests you want to do.

It's basically a shonen anime in video game form, so you can expect the usual anime hijinks along with a really engaging story and world

Plus the series does not shy away from dark elements at all. Political corruption and child prostitution/experimentation are two major parts of the Crossbell games.

I played Trails in the Sky and while it was decent I don't think I can dedicate time to 4 or 5 more of them.

Did you just play the first one or all three? The first is really slow while the second is more like what you can expect from the rest of the series.

Where did you even hear that? Once you get to the end of Sky FC you will be hit with a wall of darkness, and SC continues that.
