Dedicating hours of your time at a specific part of the day to watching someone go through a game live while they talk nonstop the whole time. And tipping them just so they say your username for 1 second. >_>

I can understand informative Let's Plays because they're way smaller, editted, and you can watch them at your leisure. Plus they make better background noise imo

Am I out of touch or is it the children that are wrong?

Yeah I find it weird to sit around and watch someone else play a game all day. The most I do is check out a stream for a few minutes if its a game i'm interested in just to kinda see how it plays.

Ive watched some pro heroes of the storm/overwatch games, but Ive never just sat and watched someone play a game. Dont see the appeal in it.

if a games gameplay isnt good enough to actually play I dont care how good the story is. Plenty of games with good story AND gameplay

and I hear people talk at work all day. I don't want to come home and hear people talk about stupid shit all night too. that's why I haven't been in Overwatch voice chat in like 2 years

I watch some speedrunning on Twitch but it really blows me away when I see people giving like hundreds (or more) dollars a week to those people. And you just know that a lot of those people donating can't really afford to spend that much money but they're like addicted to the recognition or something.

I just watch highlights because there's no time in my day to watch streams. I like some streamers and their personalities, and I made a Twitch account from back when it was Justin, but I just can't keep up with Twitch. Luckily the streamers I follow post their highlights on Youtube where I'm watching all my videos.

Korean (video game) twitch streamers are better, both male and female streamers.

Chat participants focus more on the game, the occasional but hilarious mispronunciations of English words, and the like. None of this American/Western e-drama and superficial "My only positives are my boobies, pay me".

I feel like (depending on what you're watching) Twitch makes much more sense than a Let's Play. If you're watching a Let's Play of someone who is okay at video games do a play through, that's much easier to say "Why are you watching someone play a game instead of just playing it yourself?" whereas watching someone be good at <insert multiplayer game at the top of Twitch> actually gives you something that you probably don't find worth the time to become good enough at yourself.

I also think people get the donations thing wrong. There are obviously exceptions, but for smaller streamers donating is usually more like "Hey person you've given me a lot of content for free so here's $5 to help continue that". It's not all just someone nerding out that someone said their name on the internet.

I was first introduced to Twitch in 2012 when a friend said to check out these live Mario 64 speedruns. He gave me a link to Siglemic and I just kept watching while noticing the interaction through chat.

After checking out a couple of other channels and asking questions I bought a Dazzle capture card in an attempt to stream. Due to my computer's limitations they came out horribly, but I was still intrigued by the whole concept. I periodically watched Sig and other speedrunners when I was bored.

Then on Halloween night in 2014 I came across a channel with the title MegaMan Nightly, and a few people were watching. Being the MegaMan fan that I am I got involved quickly, and kept coming back night after night. I was sharing in a game series that I loved since I was 9 years old watching someone in their mid 20s play the games blind. More and more people showed up over the months and we built a community.

We would stream all together and do races, mod each other's channels, and join in on everyone's individual content. With the introduction of Discord into the mix everything continued to grow. I'm now part of a large online community across several Twitch channels and Discord servers, and have made many friends along the way. I have impacted some lives, been part of a short lived podcast, and became a playtester for a fan made MegaMan game as a result.

This is what Twitch means to me.

I like to watch twitch streamers, I mostly just watch streamers play games that I just recently played and just talk to them about random nonsense about the game lol

I don't really fuck with streamers that have like 50+ viewers. you have to try way too hard to get their attention and it's generally not worth it imo. It's kind of like this board, like why do we spend alot of free time here? I personally just like to shit post, and twitch chatrooms are perfect for that sort of thing, provided if the streamer has a sense of humor lol

I'm older and like watching Twitch for retro speed running type stuff, or to check out new games I'm on the fence about, and I follow some of the poker streamers. I never sub or donate though besides my Twitch Prime sub, but it does boggle my mind when people donate hundreds of dollars or buy hundreds of dollars worth of sub gifts for the channel. I sometimes wonder if there isn't some kind of money laundering going on but I suppose there's a lot of whales out there who have nothing better to do with their money.

When people make topics talking about twitch or YouTube channels, one of the common complaints is that they are not worth watching because you don't learn anything. I don't understand that, can't you just watch something to be entertained? Why do you need to learn something? Why do you need to see someone dominate the game? Most people I watch (on YouTube, never watched a live twitch stream) are average gamers who have a fun personality. That's common with a lot of people's fans, they watch the stream/video for the person, not the game. That's why some people can play any game they want and still have a decent amount of views. Just today I put on a let's play while I did Xenoblade Chronicles side missions.

I also can't get into playthroughs that are not blind. If they know the game already, it's just so boring to watch. In a blind play through, you get to sort of relive those moments through their reactions and comments. Like I'll watch just about any playthrough of Danganronpa because it's fun watching the person get attached to characters and their reactions to their inevitable death. It doesn't have to be story moments, it could be gameplay too. Like I'm currently watching a Doom Eternal play through and its fun watching them get hyped over a new demons glory kill animation.

I've always said that the perfect gamefaqs video is 10 seconds long, black screen with white text, silent, bullet points, and state facts. Everyone is ugly and everyone has a cringy voice, so no faces or voices, it's short, it's to the point, and you learn something.
