God damn. I just saw an article about Torii Hunter saying Boston fans would call him the n word all the time. I fucking hate Boston sports fans.
yeah i remember some dodgers players saying this too a few years ago but it was more in jest during a casual convo about bostons fans being racist.

its disgusting that the city has tolerated that bullshit

It's an odd dichotomy.

Surprised it took this long. This has been happening for a while, relievers have spoken up about having insult hurled at them as the worked in the bullpen. I assume racial insults happen too often in other parks too, but it's clear by everyone signaling out Fenway that it happens even more there.
I'm all for some good heckling, but keep it about them sucking.

There are tons of black people, but they are from other countries. A weird argument in my opinion, especially if you think of a white American basketball player complaining about too many euro whites and asking for more white American kids to be involved. This isn't an issue related to any prejudice either just that it is a world game and other sports are just more popular outside the black community.

Its funny, you ask people how Boston's racism sticks out moreseo than any other major city and they have to go back 50 years for prominent examples.

I'll always say the greatest trick New York ever pulled was convincing the country that boston is the bastion of racism in the northeast

Theres a lot of unconscious racism in Boston, in my experience. People who live in Boston have a lot of pride in their city. Whenever theyre asked if Boston is racist, theyll respond in pretty much the same way as the people in the Daily Show video posted above did. Nobody living in Boston is asking why people think Boston is a racist city. Theyre outright denying a problem exists without knowing what the problem is.

1. Torri Hunter made those comments almost 20 years ago

2. if the standard for a racist city is its fans during sporting events, boston is hardly the poster child for this.

edit: prominent being the key word there

Boston fans are the worst. They're the most spoiled city of the past generation for overall success, and yet they have this inexplicable victim complex about everything and expect everyone else to love them like they're still loveable losers. They take mild slights as cardinal sins (seriously, suggest to a group of Boston fans that Tom Brady is merely a top five QB of all time, and they'd act like you fucked their mom for the horror of downplaying him), and are just flabbergasted at the notion that other fanbases have the gall to not like their teams.

They're like a mix between Philly and Bama fans, with the worst qualities of both.

I'm not saying Boston doesnt have issues with racism. I'm a lifelong black bostonian from Dorchester and Roxbury.

But to hear the rest of the country talk about the place, youd think dudes in trucks were riding around trying to lynch us. Theres levels to racism and "idiot sports fans" is kind of a low threshold

Because it is?

if you want to end racism in this country you dont get to do it selectively, it needs to be all in

Ive been to plenty of Red Sox games and never heard anyone say the n-word. And if it happens so often why hasnt the team or the league received an actual complaint about it? Surely the black fans in the stands would be just as offended as the players

There's nothing to defend. I already said boston has its issues with racism. I just scoff at it being on par with a New York or Chicago in 2020.

Theres a reason people have to go back to forced integration and Bill Russell when looking for prominent examples.

1. never pretended it didnt happen. I pointed out Hunter made those comments almost 20 years ago

2. I said if your biggest point of evidence to Bostons racism is its idiots racist sports fans, then that's pretty low on the racism ladder in comparison to other major cities
