Black Lives Matter, Black Voices Are Important

Hello everyone! Jordan here. GameSpot initially went into June with plans to kick off Play For All, a combo platter of gaming celebration and charity effort to raise money for COVID-19 relief. And we're still doing that, don't worry. But there's a lot more going on in the world than COVID-19 right now. Cities across the US are now witness to massive protests against the ongoing violence towards black individuals suffering police brutality. In support of the protests, GameSpot has shifted the message of Play For All. We're still raising money for COVID-19 relief, but we want to also show our support for the Black Lives Matter movement.

So we want to take the time to highlight black creators and the work they do, whether they work for GameSpot or other parts of the industry. On our front page and social media, we'll be sharing articles, videos, and podcast episodes that you may have already seen before, here or otherwise. We've already compiled a long list of work if you want to binge through some quality content right now--it's outlined below. That list includes projects that look at the black experience in pop culture, like Alessandro Fillari's exploration of Far Cry 5's setting and how it made him feel like an outsider and my look at how disappointing it is to see Borderlands 3 hand-waving the racist undertones of H.P. Lovecraft's stories in its Guns, Love, and Tentacles DLC, as well as projects that have less to do with race but offer something you might still find interesting, such as Greg Thomas' video of the 11 times that The Twilight Zone predicted the future.

Of course, the conversation doesn't stop there. Acknowledging that there is a difference in how black people are generally treated when it comes to the police shouldn't be the end of the conversation, and neither should these articles, videos, and podcasts that look at how race has informed representation in pop culture. Action is necessary, as is education. If you're looking for ways to be educated in order to better know how to take action, consider reading Ta-Nehisi Coates' Between The World And Me, Cornel West's Black Prophetic Fire, Ibram X. Kendi's How To Be An Antiracist, or Ijeoma Oluo's So You Want To Talk About Race. doesn't make it a fair moderation though. again, even if they don't want to make a public statement, they have no right to mod that post. the user was not breaking any rules.

the mods can't say "I don't want to do that. and you are suspended for daring to ask"

Also this is very stupid to bring up since the devs actually did address the issue and the outrage community decided to ignore it. Lovecraft was a racist, oh well. His fictional universe was neat and unique and you can most certainly live with that.

Well in a way we all are. Nobody wants to get called into HR for some innocuous irrelevant bullshit or because someone is gaslighting because they hate you. At the same time most people support these protests for quite a lot of reasons, myself included. There's a lot on the line really.

It's not stupid to reaffirm your commitment to the fight against racism to the black users of this site, who have to deal with a LOT of racist bullshit

they literally let Admiral run wild for years. It's always been fairly obvious where they stood, especially Error's defensiveness when I asked him about mod diversity.

Me outright saying the site doesn't ask users what their race (or gender) is when making them a mod is not 'defensiveness'. You constantly imply the mod staff is racist because we don't know how many people are black on the mod staff. And somehow me not knowing the exact race of the mod staff is a blight on me according to you.

No. But I can't point out where the CBS front desk receptionist shared it either. These statements are controlled by dedicated marketing teams who are the only ones authorized to make official statements on behalf of the company.

If you look on ksot you'll see the site staff has historically been incredibly diverse. People aren't as interested in keeping it up to date these days, I don't even think all the mods are on there now, but w/e
