Cynthia Franks, a white woman in RURAL Michigan says she was pulled over FIVE TIMES in a year because her large Black POODLE named MERLIN was repeatedly mistaken for an African American Man!!

The award winning playwright and children's tv writer says she saw different treatment with police when she moved back to her hometown after living in NYC for 15 yeares.

In a blog published titled "A White Woman, Racism and a Poodle" when she explained how 3 traffic stops were for offenses such as impeding traffic when no other cars were around, officers were quick to draw their gun. Every time she got stopped with her pooch, she never receiveda ticket and was left confused

When she stopped by a Monroe County Sheriff, he unfastened the top of his holsteron his g un and flashed his light on Merlin and his demeanor changed. His stern face disappeared but seemed annoyed.

She said "I thought i was going to get a ticket for Merlin being in the front seat. He didn't ask if i'd been drinking or had any weapons"

He checked her license and she was going 3 miles under the speed limit and was impeding traffic but let her off despite no other cars around.

In Huron Township, Merlin was in the back as the officer got to her window, he asked "Who's in the back?" she said "no one. Just my dogs". He asks 2 more times, Who's in the back? and she said it was just her dog where he then asked her to take the dog out. The officer asked if that's a poodle and she said Yes. The officer seemed mad as he explained the impeding traffic law

Cynthia now says the officers assumed she was being held HOSTAGE by a black man who was stealing her vehicle and for the reason they grew suspicious of her black poodle.

She felt her dog was a victim of racial profiling but in hindisight, she feels she should have known her dog would be targeted beause there were plenty of times when black men pulle dup next ot her when they saw her dog and said "Hey, a brother dog"

Cynthia says this is the danger black man feel when cops pull them over as they assume someone is violent have their guns ready and then realize it was a mistake AFTER the fact when someone is killed but do not get punished for their error.

Would you mistake her dog as a black man if you saw that in the passenger seat?

I'm not really convinced either way on this one. This is really stupid and that "Hey brother dog" thing was a bit extra. Then again, cops have done much dumber stuff.
