And what did it all include?
Me and fiance are planning to get married next year and are saving 15k each for 30k total.

We were originally planning a destination wedding but this COVID stuff has been messing everything up so i dont know.

Around $10k for around 100 people

That was for venue, meals, cake, open bar, DJ, decorations, wedding dress, and tux rental.

$3500, including the honeymoon.

I forget the details, but it included flowers and decorations, a venue for the reception, dance floor, tux and dress (and a tux for one groomsman), food, DJ, lights, plane tickets, cruise tickets, a hotel room, a couple of meals, taxi fare, and I forget what all else. Another grand-ish for rings but we budgeted those separately.

We would but its mostly for her family. The less we could get by the better but we're saving that much just in case.

Like $800 for about 20 people

Neither of us wanted a big wedding, her dad has his own church and married us, we had the wedding there. Cost went into food and furniture rental, decorations, etc.

Whatever it cost for the marriage license and if we had to pay for the guy from the list they gave us that married us.

Went out to dinner that night, one of our parents covered it, but I guess you could add that. Probably like $100.

I work as a winemaker so can sort booze cheap and venue. Food trucks are real popular here right now and are pretty cost effective so may roll with that too.

about $3800 for 75 people back in 2011. But we got a good deal because we were married on a Tuesday night, so we had full pick of the venue, catering, etc.
so yeah, the 3800 covered the wedding itself, reception, food, cake, DJ, the whole works, and the on-site wedding planner at the venue took care of all of it for us.
forgot to include, we also had an OPEN BAR for 3 hours as part of the package! the bar tab itself was over $4K, but we didn't pay a dime because it was all together

the honeymoon was another 1.5K for a week in Hawaii.

12k-15k total...without honeymoon for an event of up to 100.

5k for the venue which included dj, service and the catering.
1.2k for the dress
500 for cake which was divided 50/50 between my best man and me
600 for booze
2k decorations for the venue
225 my rent for what I wore
etc etc...

But the venue and number of guests is what eats up the budget

$60,000 for 220 people.

The venue we selected was essentially a large, enclosed compound that included a beautiful chapel, green landscaping, and the main reception area and adjacent space for the cocktail hour. It was very important to us that our guests only needed to arrive at one location to participate in all events. Basically included all the trimmings - cocktail hour, food, drinks (open bar for 5 hours), and a Viennese hour.

My wife handled the vendors (photographer/videographer, DJ, and floral arrangements) and I took care of our honeymoon to Italy. Those costs were in addition to the wedding/venue cost.

This. And mine was in Toronto. I think it was 15K. I brought the booze to the venue so it was open bar based on what I brought over from the liquor store.

My wife and I married ourselves, reading our vows at a beautiful abandoned courtyard on a mountain. Her dress was a $200 dress she picked out at a store she likes. Our dog was the only one present. Then we went to the courthouse a few days later and did paperwork.

so $200 I guess

I like the idea of having a wedding, especially with a large part of my family living outside the US, in England and Nigeria. The idea of kind of doing that whole traditional Nigerian wedding stuff and having people see it seems nice and cool. But I also know I'd be anxious and kinda stressed about some stuff, mainly the size. Plus the money.
The idea sounds nice, but the reality makes it less so.

I'm Nigerian American (Anambra State). We did the kolanut breaking, palm wine carry, traditional clothes, etc. It wasn't the full, traditional wedding given the circumstances but we did enough to satisfy my parents, extended family and friends.

That was part of the reason why our guest list was a little on the large size.

My younger brother is about to get married and his future MIL is trying to have a guest list of some 300 people. I told him you have to kill that noise with the quickness.

One regret I have with my wedding is that I didn't even get to speak with a majority of my guests. The whole thing goes by so fast.

Depends on what you want included? Between the venue (which included food, open bar, and the wedding cake), DJ, photography and videography it was about 30k and that was with 234 guests. Also got to include stuff like wedding dress and tuxedos too though and other little things you may forget about.

Currently planning and saving for getting married. It'd be nice if it could happen this year but I'm guessing it'll be next year. My fiancee is disabled and housebound so we've enquired about getting married at home and the local registrar said we could, didn't expect all this stuff with covid-19 to happen.

Even without having a big party there's still rings to buy, the cost of having someone come out to make it official and my fiancee still wants a dress for the day. So I'm starting to understand how the big party weddings cost so much.

We paid for the venue, the decorations, the food, the DJ, the limo, the open bar, etc.

Is that what she wants or her family is pushing on her? Cause if neither of you want it then the hell with what anyone else thinks. $30k could be used for so many better things like a down payment on a house, or paying off debt, or hell just a nice honeymoon.

My wife and I got married for about $8k. That included her dress, the venue, and the photographer. My wife cooked/catered our wedding with the food my mother in law gave us as a wedding present. We had about 50 people attend.

Even at $8k we wish we just skipped the wedding and spent that on a better honeymoon.

About $20k for 110 people

We cheaped out on some stuff (dj/cake/clothes) but balled out on food and a good photographer

We were lucky to have our first choice in venue be pretty cheap

iirc it was like $10k or so for the caterer, $3k for photographer, $2k venue, the rest was smaller stuff

Btw: find a caterer that will serve booze that you buy. We did a trip to a nearby state with cheaper booze, served only beer and wine, and got everyone tipsy for <$500.

Money much better spent on a vacation or swimming pool or some shit.

We got a guy to wed us at our home with no guests. It was a nice intimate thing without having to worry about everyone else and their mother.
I think it was just a couple hundred dollars or so to pay the guy and the government costs.

I have five older sisters and all of them are married. The cost of their weddings varied a bit, but were all fairly expensive with around 100 guests at a minimum. Watching all of these weddings take place definitely didn't leave a strong impression on me.

I've been with my girlfriend for 1.5 years now. She has stated on numerous occasions that she hates weddings and wouldn't ever want to have a big one. She has been in numerous weddings in the last year and she hates them. Her best friend got married in a courthouse and that was the only wedding my girlfriend liked.

It seems beyond insane to me to spend a lot of money on a wedding. It is just a party. There is no real lasting value in that investment. Marriage is simply not at all about the wedding.
