I think the players are being stupid. They are screwing themselves out of any money at all. And one rumor is that if there is no season this year, it may not come back next year and MLB will go out of business forever

From what I understand, under the previous agreement that they agreed to a month or so ago, at the very least there will be a 56 game season.

Labor strife in baseball was inevitable, the financial model is completely fucked. The Covid cancellations just moved things forward a couple of years. I hope that they lose a season or two and are able to work out a system that isn't based on fucking over 99% of professional baseball players so that a few owners and mega-contract recipients can live large.

I don't know if this is true, as it doesn't make a lot of sense, but I heard some of the owners would be fine with there being no season. The logic being that they will loose money no matter what.

The owners are the problem here, for sure. For decades in major league baseball, no matter how good a player is, his value is capped by the system the owners made. All-Star, major award winner, transcendent talent? Too bad, for the first 7+ years (and usually longer because it's at the team's discretion, never the players') of your career you make less than your contemporaries in other major sports because that's the way the system is. Then all of a sudden the owners want to cut off of that bottom line because they get less because of something out of everybody's control? That's BULLSHIT.

And anybody who wants to complain, consider this. Without the players, there is no baseball. If every single owner lost his team and was replaced by somebody else, does anything change?
