Bottom line is you get what you pay for. Everyone gets a basic education for cheap if not free. Its up to that family to instill good values in their children which take advantage of that education. I know plenty of people whose parents are doctors/lawyers and they are now doctors/lawyers. I also know plenty of people who went to shitty highschools in shitty cities and they are also MDs and JDs and engineers who are doing well for themselves.

I think its a pretty big issue. You would see a lot less of the issues we have going on now if all classes were equal or at least closer to each other than what they currently are.

Unfortunately its something that will never be changed because people focus to much on the smaller issues surrounding it and ignore class inequality as a whole. Middle class looks down on lower class, upper class looks down on middle class, no class wants to help each other and none want to be in the class they are in.

I think they need to take that to the next level and make sure the quality of K-12 education is on the same level in rich vs poor areas.

Also, I don't think a requirement is that it should depend on family. There's a world of difference between being raised by a rich and poor family.
