Do you remember when the Taliban blew up those two giant statues of Buddha?

They stood more than a hundred feet tall and were nearly 1,500 years old. I never saw them in person and Im not a Buddhist, but pictures made them look glorious. It doesnt matter because we cant visit them now, since they dont exist anymore.

If someone could do that to two ancient examples of human effort, artistic expression and architecture, I dont think we should consider any other (arguably lesser) statues as being safe from destruction.

Stone Mountain is probably getting blown up by the end of the month. Then Rushmore.
Crazy Horse, however, will never be finished.

I found Crazy Horse much more impressive than Mt. Rushmore. Besides, they already have to spend a fortune to repair this thing every year because it was build on really soft stone that is prone to erosion.

Yes, a lot of people around the world were upset those statues were destroyed, but they werent going to do anything about it anyway to actually save them. You can destroy whatever you want, and I suspect eventually that is what will happen. Nothings inherently sacred and also impervious to peoples plans to destroy it, if they are offended by it.

That is not a judgment call as to whether or not that is good or bad, whether this image or that image deserves to be destroyed or preserved.

It doesn't need to be destroyed, because I don't believe that would actually improve anything. But shifting it to a native American heritage site and making that the primary focus, not the monument itself, should be a priority.
