We told them all when they were freaking out that the courts weren't going to be the way they acted. They were acting like abortion was gonna be banned day 1 and shit. Fearmongering is a great motivational tool though.

I am not displeased that the outcome came about. I think it is probably something that should be that way. I do think the decision was wrong based on the case though, but the Supreme Court has the authority to make that call.

I don't think sex was intended to cover gender issues and that gender things should have been added as a protection specifically in name to cover it. However, discriminating against someone is pretty bad regardless, so the outcome is fine as far as the result.

So, surprised the Court ruled that way. But, okay with the result.

Wait I just realized something for the first time possibly

Corrik, is your community very diverse? Or overwhelmingly white?
In Pittsburgh we've done our damnedest to move our minorities away from where the Whites might be. Most of the suburbs to the north and south have very few BIPOC, there's some to the west but primarily their neighborhoods are removed from where white people might go. Hell, we razed the homes of thousands of people (almost entirely black) in an area close to downtown so that we could build a shiny new hockey rink! And in the lot where the previous rink was, we said we'd rebuild some of the housing and community buildings that existed in the other spot! Except lol nah we never actually did that and the lot still remains empty.

More recently, one of our city universities released a handy image guide for what neighborhoods students should visit if they aren't familiar with Pittsburgh. It excluded all the black neighborhoods - and not as a matter of "oh they're just not near the university" but rather had them as simple blank spaces in the image.

https://www.publicsource.org/cmu-created-a-map-excluding-pittsburghs-black-neighborhoods-its-not-the-only-one/

So yeah we have a few problems.

Edit: I love this line in that article
The Hill District is labeled but does not have any points of interest.
Because, again, in the 1950s we demolished the jazz scene in the Hill district and basically kicked the neighborhood in the knees in order to make room for other things. It's a pretty common story around these parts.

The article itself mentions that they aren't all black, for example it excludes Highland Park which is bizarre to me because I have a soft spot for that neighborhood. Instead, it based it off of points of interest.... which just happened to exclude a number of black neighborhoods. Many people took it as "hey this neighborhood isn't worth visiting if you're not from Pittsburgh" and it left a pretty poor impression.

The more amusing part is Gaetz then went on Twitter talking about how he adopted a Cuban son. The thing is, literally nothing about him, not his websites or his wikipedia or anything have ever once mentioned this son. So the internet of course did what the internet does, and found a picture from 2016 that has the same "son" in question, Nestor Galban. Except, well... Draw your own conclusions:

https://twitter.com/lesleyabravanel/status/1273697424373055494

EDIT: To add to this, this Nestor Galban created a Twitter account in January of 2019, at the same time that there is record of Gaetz sending a Venmo payment to Nestor Galban, with the message from Nestor being "this Nestor"

I wouldn't be surprised if it's actually true.

It's just incredibly on brand for Matt Gaetz to be purposely hiding a son until it was politically advantageous to suddenly use him as a prop for a point.

A point that wasn't even a legitimate rebuttal to Richmond.

As I continue to read through comments, I'm still confused what logic people base their algorithms on for making twitter bot accounts.

"We need this account to look real. What does the average American twitter user account look like?"
"I believe they commonly misspell their own first name and then add 9-14 random numbers after it."
"Yes, this seems both real and accurate."
"Look, their President fell for it, so we must be right!"

It's time for Trump to go on the offensive I think. Make it clear that a vote for Biden is a vote for Hillary Clinton, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Antifa, Bill Clinton, globalism, corruption, Ukraine, the rich, the media, rich universities charging an arm and a leg for tuition while getting tax benefits and grants from the taxpayers, and Vladimir Lenin himself all rolled into one.

When I first saw the question "have you heard of Juneteenth" my immediate thought was "is that like when Friday the 13th falls in June or something?" Then I looked at the calendar and realized the 13th was on Saturday lol. Trump will do what Trump does. He will find the the least tactful and most offensive way to say something even if it is a simple truth based on numbers (the fact of a majority of people in the U.S. not knowing what it was until this week). Like, he didn't "make it famous", but I have little doubt that the whole ordeal significantly multiplied awareness of the holiday. And then because there's a nugget of truth buried in the donkey shit, people on his side just hand wave the fact he's a walking pile of dung himself.

Can we just get this guy outta here please zzzz

He sort of used the same argument conservatives have used for years to argue against same-sex marriage. The argument was that a straight man and a gay man have the same right - to marry a woman. Similarly, a straight woman and a lesbian woman have the same right - to marry a man. It has nothing to do with orientation, only with sex, see. Well, Gorsuch just turned it around on them. If a woman cannot be fired for being attracted to men, how can you fire a man for doing the same thing (being attracted to men)? That would be discrimination based on sex, and therefore falls within the text of the Civil Rights Act.

So uh, Trump really needs to get his campaign in gear. Only 4.5 months left to Election Day. Biden's obviously decided to run a high road type campaign of just sitting back and not engaging. That's worked well for him so far and it could work. However, if your opponent wants to run a super low road campaign, taking the high road historically fails, so Trump should start doing that fast. That clip of Biden extorting Ukraine should be airing like every commercial break on every TV station and before every Youtube video.
