What we wanted was for them to realize that they are as much a part of the problem as anything else, to put down badges and help their communities by being part of a solution. Instead, they are getting butthurt because they are being held accountable for once in their miserable lives and stomping off the playground. Which means they never cared about being a part of the solution to begin with and the whole narrative of "some people are cops because they want to do good" is bullshit.

Take a peak at any of the 530 incidents captured on film since the George Floyd protests began compiled in that database and tell me how sorry I should feel for the cops. Each of those incidents had plenty of cops around, none of them made a move to stop their fellow officers. I've watched cops teargas people who weren't part of the protest including children, they assaulted the old man in Buffalo, they've attacked medic camps, destroyed water supplies and milk jugs (that were okayed by city officials), they've intentionally targeted legal observers and journalists, they teargassed houses in DC that sheltered protesters after the cops kettled them by herding them to a dead end right before curfew, they've assaulted random people by pulling them out of cars and beating them, they rolled through residential neighborhoods not even in the protest area and teargassed people sitting on their porch. In every major city where protests have broken out there are dozens of videos of cops going wild.
Then on the few occasions where cops get in trouble people in the department quit or resign from special positions. Why should I feel bad for them?

You don't think there are dozens of videos of any group of people acting like assholes? There are billions of us here. It's so easy to compile.

What do you think those white supremacists sites do? They compile all the bad stuff minorities do, and that's their main source of info. No wonder their view of the world is fucked up.

Hey peaceful protesters, remember when you said you don't want to be demonized and viewed as violent, because some other people decided to riot and loot?

Telling police not to let the door hit them on the way out is not violence by any stretch of the imagination. The imagination doesn't have to stretch too far to see violence in abandoning the people you swore to protect due to an increase in accountability.

Further, even people saying abolish the police tomorrow aren't saying to replace it with nothing like these cops will be by being in dereliction of duty. They want to build up state capacity and address the root causes of crime by shifting resources away from violence and incarceration toward housing, education, healthcare, and other things that actually make people happy and safe. And they wanted to move away from having people with guns show up to handle social issues once they've gotten out of control and having actual experts show up to address issues of addiction, mental health, homelessness, school issues etc.

Instead, officers as an institution are going to put YOU in danger to prove a cheap political point. And you're applauding them for it and blaming the people who simply wanted accountability and something less than absolute impunity and fawning obedience.

It's the same as the cops in Buffalo being butt hurt because people got held accountable to shoving an old man who was doing nothing to the ground.
