Just curious. Debate is welcome, but I'm not really looking to start one.

I'm largely for it, in principle. It should be no easy task for the state to put anyone to death, however. And the punishment must fit the crime.

Nah. You can deserve death, but that doesn't mean a person has to make it happen.

There are some people whose crimes are so heinous, and where the evidence is so obvious, that I would be fine with them getting a bullet to the head.

But thats not the way reality works, sadly. Id rather abolish the death penalty altogether. Better that some trash gets to rot in prison than we accidentally kill even one innocent person.

No. I don't think it's a power the state should have in the context of executions.

No. It's basically cruel and unusual punishment if you read up on any of the methods used to administer death

Disagree

It doesn't deter crime. In fact there's evidence it increases it.
It costs a fortune
You always run the risk of killing innocent people.

It's just a bad stratergy for humanity and a hold over from religion. There is no pragmatic argument in favor for it.

In spite of all the bullshit I've seen over the years, I'm still a staunch advocate against the death penalty.

There's a lot of stipulations and variables. I used to be for it, but now I'd rather stand against it. Let the punishment to be to live out the rest of your life in confinement, either knowing what you did was wrong and being powerless to change it, or fully believing you were in the right while absolutely no one else believes you. It will utterly break your moral and psychological integrity and change you, for better or worse.
