My property goals are townhouses and apartments. The idea of the 6 bedroom, double storey home with a cinema and backyard sounds like shit to me. I'd rather a high quality, 3 bedroom apartment in a high rise.

Why do people want giant houses that take forever to clean?

Pretty much the same. 3 bedroom though, as I want 2 kids and a guest bedroom for when my parents come to visit.

I prefer a single story home 3br2ba for myself. The last thing I want to think about when I get old are stairs.

What square footage we talking?

Currently building a 2200sq ft place with 3 beds (and a den thats flexible as a 4th bedroom) and I think its a really solid amount of space. We have three kids though. I dont need a mancave or mudroom type of extras, but we will have a 22x15 rec room and 2.5 baths. All of the bedrooms are 11x13 or larger, which I personally prefer. Master bed and living room has cathedral ceilings, which helps open the place up.

I dont think 2200 is a big house though, in regards to cleaning or maintenance.

Anything above 2500 with more than 4 bedrooms or second living room is getting a bit much to me. I could see it as necessary for 5 or more kids, frequent guests or live-in nanny/grandparent.

Spent the last few years in a 1000sq ft apartment with two kids and I could never imagine living in anything like this again. Maybe a 1500+ penthouse.

Now that my kid is already out of the house, I'm content with a smaller place tbh.

people's taste in housing are different. some prefer smaller residences others like giant.
seen a difference in what 90 sq feet gives compared to the old apartment. only bad thing is the distance to the store which isn't a problem if covid isn't around.

This is where i'm at now on 10 acres of land, considering more land but I don't need anything bigger for me and the wife. We are both nearly 40 (she is) so no kids coming or anything. I might buy more land, but no need for a bigger house at all.

I'm currently in an 80m2 apartment (260 square feet?) for my wife and I and we have plenty of space

2 bed, 2 bath, living/dining/kitchen open plan area

I hate one-story houses

A house/condo in a highrise would be fine though.

If you're buying that kind of property you're paying people to maintain it for you.

My dream house is pretty small but it'd sit on a massive amount of land. Neighbors fucking suck

I don't want a big house because I'm paranoid.

Ah, no kids helps. My wife and I lived in a ~600sq ft place in Hawaii before we had kids and it was plenty for us, nice layout helps too.
