If I can be the hype man (on behalf of Yankees), I strongly recommend Legend of the Galactic Heroes. Epic space opera. I think I've seen you save Monster and Kaiji so we likely have similar tastes? (I too am not a slice of life/romance fan) And it's a bit on the older side which I thought might be an issue, I think it's the oldest anime I've ever watched, but that's really not a problem. The simplicity in the animation style is more refreshing than anything - and the story and characters are incredible. (though full disclosure, I'm also only through 62 of 110 episodes so maybe it falls off a cliff at some point but I'm not anticipating that!!) Bane_Of_Despair posted...
