doesn't work that way. if we have them out in town squares, that is honoring them, not "reminding us of a dark past". the people who live in those towns love the statue and don't feel shame or "never again" when they look at it. when WW2 ended Germany didn't keep up hitler statues to "remind them never again". they demolished most of them and put anything that remained in a museum about teaching people that Hitler was wrong.

Sounds good, I support anything that pisses off the rednecks.

There is no slippery slope
What people fail to realize is that they're either racist themselves (they won't admit it obviously because of hypocrisy) or they have some kinda prejudice against someone or a type of person they deem to be inferior.
Ex:
-Why do people look down at people who think a certain way or how they view themselves to be?
-why do people look down at people for expressing a certain religion or be part of some kinda religious community
-why do some people mistreat the disabled/elderly or those that have some kinda medical condition?
-why do some people hate the way certain people look (body size, weight, hair color, freckles/no freckles)?

I don't even necessarily agree with the "put them in a museum!" crowd. Not all statues are historically significant, regardless of what they depict. Most statues are just decorations and don't hold any real importance themselves, and it's ridiculous to expect museums to make room for a bunch of junk no one will come to see. Some statues should be preserved, but it's a relatively small number
