Hell at this same time WB Games was giving previews to YouTubers for positive coverage and no one said shit because it was solely about the perception of leftist video game media and not about reviewing buggy games well.

Well the point was supposed to be a conflict of interest between developers/publishers and journalists so you'd think a lot. But it was always more about indie games from feminists than anything actually valid.

The point is that the journalists do review games and are angling to work for the companies of the products they are reviewing. Which calls their credibility into question.

Nope, it was a shit show. Acting like people weren't mad at journalist before it isn't the whole picture and that people like TB, David Pakman, and Jim Sterling didn't have discussion about journalism and Ethics during that time because of it.

Jim Sterling was a target of Gamergate.

Plenty of people talk about the issues with games journalism fine. Gamergate is not one of those examples.

Worse still, you can't bring up the lack of integrity in journalism (gaming or otherwise) without someone throwing a fit and derailing/deflecting from the issue.

And then those same people complain about the prominence of "fake news" these days. Well no shit, they were helped along every time the subject was broached, so nobody can act like you care about honestly in the medium now when they clearly didn't care before.

I've seen no one here that considers GG anything but a shitshow, but if something is going to be discussed accuracy is important and people always feel the need to twist the history of all this. It's where the worst of the right and left were first visible growing alongside one another and feeding off of each other, a very big part of how we got to the batshit crazy present we now live in. Mainly, there should at least be a lesson to learn here and embetter ourselves but some seem content to keep speeding towards absolute chaos.

You can. It's what this topic is actually about before people started talking about nonsense from half a decade ago.

IGN fired a journalist that was copying other peoples work a year or so ago too.

The problem is people would rather argue over video game scores or that a guy plays a game bad in a video. Stuff like reviewers angling for PR jobs isn't interesting to most people.

And people are really quick to the gun to turn any sort of discourse about game journalism and ethics into a "oh boy this is gonna be gamergate again" and derail any sort of conversation because of it too
