he is powered by an Infinity Stone
He was equal to or nearly equal to Ultron, who was a threat that demanded the attention of The Avengers. Not one avenger, the whole team.
Yet hes basically useless after age of ultron

Because him actually being effective to his full capacity wouldn't make for a compelling story.

Same reason why Carol Danvers was held until pretty much the last second.

also in iron man why was iron man jumping into and out of suits in the middle of a fight. I think it was iron man 3
Just stay in a suit and fight
Why did he blow up all his suits. What a stupid idiot
He was great in every movie he was in except for his own movies (sans the first)

Weak story telling at least as a film.

In the comics there was more drawn out suspense. The movies really missed that but there's only so much that can be done with the medium.

Is that another term for "down time between issues"?

Anyway, the DCAU Justice League did the same thing with Superman and Martian Manhunter. They both had the superpower lottery, so they had multiple stories where Superman simply wasn't around or he got jobbed hard.

In Civil War he couldn't go all-out because they were supposed to capture, not kill. And in Infinity War, he gets shanked by an alien spear before he can do anything, which fucks him up for the rest of the movie.

Not necessarily what I mean. The gravitas portrayed in the comics did the story a service as the side plot weaved in and out allowing the story to be told over time and more effectively.

In a films, these moments are spaced further apart with plot crammed into as little space as possible, shattering the illusion of urgency.

I totally can see DC painting themselves into a corner with Superman. I didn't know until MK vs DC came out that Supes was allergic to magic.

For a long while he wasn't, or at least it wasn't as obvious. I think that came about in the 90s as "a thing" when they realized that they need some legit way to have something besides kryptonite be a threat.

But at the end of the day, he isn't any more or less vulnerable to magic than most other people in the DC universe. The thing is compared to the fact that he's "invulnerable" to so much more, that tends to be when he's out of action that's why. Also magical foes will target him first, for obvious reasons.
