I get that for story reasons they have to show the Alliance abusing their Terran slaves, but they could have shown mining operations on Bajor, and it would have made much more sense then their bringing tons of rocks up to an orbital base for processing.

Spacestation means that you can put the slaves on the far side of the airlock.
