Also has more movies than HBO Max despite them having access to the entire Warner Bros catalog. Lol!

Try a two week free trial and thank me later! =)

From what I can tell there are ~100 movies released over the past five years on there.

I have more to say when I'm done gaming. Short blurbs

ok I wrote these up, mostly for my own use... so I remembered. Not trying to be a film critic, just keep my memory fresh

1.Musical, even minor dialogue is sung. Enjoyed the use of colors in the background, especially wallpaper and outdoor walls. Jacques Demy is known for his visual style. Plot structure leans towards a realistic, human course instead of fishing for conflict.

2.Shot in black & white. Set in Watts neighborhood of LA. "Produced and directed by Billy Woodberry, shot and written by Charles Burnett". Main character struggles to navigate society. Alternating between feelings of complacency and inadequacy, which is dependent on rationalization of his responsibilities (and whether they're consciously addressed).

3.Set in Japan, small seaside town... about a struggling acting troupe who visits, and their owner who has a past there. Directed by Yasujiro Ozu. Enjoyed the setting, especially the interior design, decorative elements, posters and papers.

Not being able to get the Criterion Channel due to living in the UK is really crap. But the free healthcare makes up for it, for now.

Jokes aside it looks like a fantastic service. If I could access it I'd sign up straight away. There's so much great stuff on there. It's not all old movies either. I know people are down on China but they've got recent Chinese movies that are absolutely incredible and hard to see otherwise. Like An Elephant Sitting Still and Long Day's Journey into Night

Six. (Equinox Flower, Good Morning, Floating Weeds, Late Autumn, The End of Summer, An Autumn Afternoon)

An Autumn Afternoon and Floating Weeds are my second and third favorite Ozu films, with Late Spring taking #1. By far my favorite director.

More specifically this abuse by the collective leaves him distrustful and unable to interact with individuals correctly

Pretty good. Just clicking around and looking for a short movie, wasn't even 90 minutes long

Does it have Creating Rem Lezar?

Creating Rem Lezar (described as "creepy/fascinating" and "very strange") appeared in a 2014 BuzzFeed listicle of 26 films that Scarecrow Video were trying to keep available to the public, as a reminder of "how many rare titles are still only available as physical media thanks to market forces, rights issues, corporate wrangling, and other reasons."

Saw this on the wiki page. Scarecrow Video actually has a larger library than the Library of Congress.

Physical media rules! 220+ titles and counting in my own library!

I prefer movies over tv shows and when I used Netflix I found their movie selection to be lacking. I prefer Amazon prime for movies they seem to have a varied selection of movies from classic holly wood movies to modern blockbusters and they even have a great selection of Shaw Brothers kung fu movies literally hundreds of them. Netflix is a garbage service that people stay subscribed to out of habit they continually pump out trash because they know people will watch whatever their algorithm pushes.

i feel like ten or so years ago, Criterion meant the best of the best. at least that's what i thought it meant.

am i supposed to believe that all of these movies are the best of the best...? there are so many. if that's not what makes something criterion, then, what does...? why would i want to watch any of these over more well-known, modern, and mainstream movies...?

i'm all for watching old stuff. but just watching old stuff for the sake of it being old is a little weird to me.

I fondly remember the days when Netflix had a solid portion of the Criterion library available for streaming. This is how I first watched the films of Jacques Tati, High and Low, 8 1/2, Shoot the Piano Player, Wild Strawberries and many others. Good times.

I'll probably subscribe to the Criterion Channel at some point, but for now, I can fill in plenty of blanks via Kanopy.

That is why I'm glad I was pointed to Tubi a few weeks ago. Finally get a change to check out those movies that I always saw the boxes of in video stores but didn't rent. They got a lot of giant snake/piranha/shark/whatever movies, those glorious sword and sorcery t&a flicks from the 80s, and a large selection of low budget slasher flicks. I mean, they do have some "real" movies and tv shows too, but I am impressed by the size and selection of cheap little movies that are so much fun to watch.
