Welcome to the King of Fighters 2020 (NOT MERCS) Simulated Character Battle Tournament!

The game is simple. The two* listed characters are placed in an (imaginary) location with a variety of (imaginary) environments, kind of like a picture in a child's schoolbook that describes different types of geological features. Within a ten mile radius, there is an (imaginary) urban downtown, exurbs, plains, snow-clad mountains at the edge, dry plains, etc. Fighters start wherever is most appropriate for them, but feel increasingly compelled to seek out their opponent and fight. Strong-willed fighters can try to hold out in their chosen environment for longer... eventually, all will succumb and actively search for the other to battle.

To participate, just vote in bold for whichever character you believe will win. Giving reasoning is optional, but please be polite and read what others have said and carefully make your decision. I'll ping the nominators (they can opt out) to give arguments if they wish.

The Avatar, master of all four elements. His airbending skills are great, but he has a lot to learn before he's ready to save anyone. But I believe that Aang can save the world.

In addition to his mind-blowingly advanced tech like Moad Snake, the Bit Particle Cannon and the Cyalume Saber, Hououin Kyouma can, in principle, send messages or even his consciousness back in time.

I don't even think we need to consider time travel for the purposes of this match. Okabe's early Future Gadgets can carry the match on their own. He has unparalleled scouting with his Bamboo Helicam, and he's functionally invisible when using the Ghost in the Ball. After finding and sneaking up on Aang, he can quickly and easily dispose of him with the powerful Cyalume Saber. Easy peasy

This is future technology Aang cannot even begin to comprehend, let alone prepare for. Like, Aang could deal with Moad Snake, fine, but not Ghost in the Ball. And the Bit Particle Gun would make short work of the Avatar

Im gonna need to see a better argument than he has tech and can sneak up on the avatar. Like if the air moves Im pretty sure Aang can sense it. He also mastered all 4 elements meaning he could bury, drown, burn or simply suffocate an opponent. He is vulnerable and he can be beaten but I need more information on these gadgets and stuff and how they overcome mastery of the elements

This is a mismatch of extreme proportions, I'm sorry, that tech is not going to be able to deal with things like tremorsense and the moad snake is something that will EASILY backfire to a massive degree if used, and this is not even touching the avatar state.

I'll summarize Hououin's arguments and explain why I didn't bother making real ones earlier:

There are a few ways to think about this (and I assumed people would naturally fall under one of this categories without prodding):

• Hououin has both a time machine, his time leap machine, and his D-mails readily available to him. If he ever runs into trouble, he can change timelines and report back in to his prior self, rescuing himself while giving himself more information. He can find where Aang is camping, and go back in time arbitrarily far to set up traps or otherwise work to incapacitate Aang. Aang is strong, but this isn't a foe he's equipped to fight
• Hououin does not have a time machine, but he has the leap machine and his D-mails. He's limited to traveling to the beginning of the match so he can't ambush Aang as soon as he arrives here, and he can only go to another area as fast as he can normally travel there, but he could still set up some kind of ambush and scout. Aang probably wouldn't be able to find Okabe's base easily (Appa was a much easier target, for example), so Hououin will be free to send D-mails at will and keep himself safe if he ever gets spotted. Aang won't kill him so Aang will temper his bending powers, and thus will be unlikely to destroy the cellphone in any initial confrontation. Hououin wins through trial and error
• His D-mails can't save him forever and Hououin will fuck up before getting the drop on Aang
• It doesn't matter because Hououin is fated to survive for at least eight more years (not relevant against Aang specifically because he's 100% go for nonviolent pacification)

Choose which category you fall under. I will say that I'm confident in this situation that D-mails will alter timelines ("no go N forest" or whatever would definitely get the job done). They aren't perfect, but he just needs to use them to "reroll" his situation to get to safety
