I don't think it is but it's the best open world game ever made imo. Morrowind or Witcher 3 might have something on it. I really enjoy this game though. It's one game I can't really find much to complain about this generation.

Witcher 3 is really rpg anyways. And Red Dead 2 is action/adventure. I love how exploration feels meaningful in this game though. I can play for hours.

While I loved RDR2, I really don't agree at all.

No.

The incredibly scripted mission design bothers me and there's so much in the design that's just a bit clumsy. Collecting ammo from enemies shouldn't be this slow and because it is I shouldn't have my cowboy friends yelling at me to continue the story.

There are secrets in the game that the internet doesn't really explain. They just tell you to go there do this. The combat and how settlements respawn also need work. I'm not the biggest fan of open world but as far as exploration is concerned and being able to do what you want. I like just wandering around trying to sneak into different settlements though. They messed up how they respawn though and there could be more as far as how you can interact with different things.

The amount of things and scope that Rockstar allows you do in the game. Some of their design decisions are a bit whatever but I think as far as other games and scope Red Dead 2 will get overlooked becaues it's what people expect from rockstar when it's really doing so much more.

My favorite open world game of all time is Grand Theft Auto San Andreas. Realism is too big of a focus these days.

I hated that the most...it made all the realism dissapeare and just pissed me off.I mean back then everyone would of got off their horses to loot.Might not be anyone for 50 miles...great game though nonetheless.

I played through it once already. I didn't really like it at first because if you rush through it you kind of are missing the point. With youtube and everything a lot of people just do this. I'm on my second playthrough. Past halfway was when i really started appreciating it.

There are still weird design decisions that drive me nuts but really there is no other game this generation that does as much. I'm just wandering around exploring trying to get all the cigarette cards and everything really taking my time.

I think Witcher 3 is better if you like questing. Games like Bloodborne if you want better combat and boss fights.

Red Dead 2 is designed to make your own stories. Really too there are secrets in the game where if you take the time to piece them together that are so cool. A lot of people don't do that.

I hope Rockstar doesn't lose that because of people who just rush through their games.

IT came out 2 years ago and it's the game I'm enjoying the most 2 years later. It took me 2 years to get to that point. And I enjoy it more than recent releases that came out like LOU2 and GOTS.

All these games are so massive. Some are worth the time investment and some aren't. Some it takes years to appreciate.

I get that. I just wish that design was in their main missions a lot more.

Like that mission where you've got to bust a guy out of jail. That's a perfect one where you should have a few ways to accomplish it. But you've got to go loud and have a shootout. It doesn't really add anything to the story to have it so freaking linear. There's no room for experimentation.

GTA V doesn't do that as well as this as far as single player. It focused more on it's multiplayer.

I don't think there is much of a difference between them honestly. At least in GTAV you can choose different ways to do a heist which is more player agency than you ever get in RDR2. But yeah there's more to find in the open world in RDR2.

Fallout iv was kind of not that great to me. There is a ton of stuff to do and find and just mess around. But the settlement building is half baked and annoying and so is a lot of the personality and charm of it. Bethesda was never great at that. Red Dead 2 can feel borig at times because it's so huge but it still has all the usual rockstar stuff in it. And it's not overly pandering. It's more trying to tell a serious story. there's a great single player campaign and stuff to do. And it has multiplayer as well.

While red dead 2 is a very well made game, its also boring as hell. Tbh I didnt really like it as much as the first.

I agree with fallout 4 also being bad, the way they made legendary weapons drop from mobs instead of unique loot was a very bad decision, it made exploring pointless. Youd go through a quest into a dungeon and get a mini-nuke as a reward. Dumb.

When I think of best game ever in open-world genre I think of San Andreas, Skyrim, Oblivion, hell maybe Breath of the Wild even though its kind of boring
