Why does he want to destroy our history? Especially by erasing the times we forced people to pick....Cotton.

Im always inclined to believe Tom Cotton is wrong. But Im curious, what about the 1619 Project is controversial or unhistorical?

I looked at the wikipedia entry-- if the project ignored the Historian who fact-checked it, then I've got to agree.

There were enslaved Afrikans here since 1526 and 1555 so I'm cool with this not going through. Not for the same reasons as Tom Cotton though

Just based on reading the wiki article, it sounds like he has good cause to object. Apparently historians and experts have been criticizing it for being historically inaccurate.

Even those that support it seem to handwave away the factual inaccuracies to support the idea behind the project.

So basically it went like:

1619 Project: The American Revolution was fought so colonists could keep using slaves.
Far left historian fact checker that specializes in the history of American slavery: That's not accurate. *explains in detail what actually happened*
1619 Project: La la la I can't hear you. *goes forward with spreading misinformation*

Gotta love it.

And then the usual crowd decided the whole thing is inaccurate because of that one sentence, something the historian goes as far as to acknowledge.

Deleted my earlier post. I haven't actually looked into the 1619 project at all, so I don't have an educated opinion on it either way. Will do some actual looking into it with the links provided ITT later.

It's almost like kicking it off with a significantly inaccurate statement and then littering other inaccuracies throughout makes it a generally inaccurate project.

I agree that we need to save an accurate portrayal of history. That is why we should demolish every Confederate statue in the country post haste. The celebration of the Confederacy paints the wrong picture.
