It's slowing down now, but we're past the 2mil mark!

I think it's interesting that now we have three stretch goals that are all about making new characters. I mean, I'm glad they're not overextending themselves but I do wonder if the stretch goal characters will be...distinct in some way, as they needed extra funds to make them.

I really doubt the extra characters needed extra funds. Kickstarters just feed off fulfilling stretch goals. I imagine most of these goals so far are things that were always intended to be in, they just needed random things to make stretch goals out of.

Yeah, that makes sense, I guess lol. It's not like if they sneaked in cooking and fishing minigame even if we only got the baseline 500k anyone would know.

okay guys lets get this all in one post so you can get this straight

1- Good old fashioned gaming fun. Not revolutionary but really structurally speaking the greatest foundation a series has ever and perhaps will ever have. It's like kinda dull by modern standards but great game.
2- I've never played this much due to the fact it is such a heavy sequel and needs to be played fresh after 1
3- Great innovations, great art, great characters, takes some bold steps but the weird way the story is set up does ultimately hurt it. (Thomas should be the flamebringer, fight me)
4- I have no idea why this game is just amazing in every way. It could be the now fairly common ability to just kind of not do battles and have the whole game on auto battle while you do other stuff. I remember I would play this game like people watch the Office. Present and half attentive for the tedious parts and all in and prepared for the more enjoyable moments. It's seriously great from beginning to end, it's simple, it doesn't have any bells or whistles just a good game
Tactics- Sooo bad. Just bad controls, bad visibility, bad battle length, there's just no way to play this game and enjoy it.
5- This is when things got bad. Long loading time, slow text, cutscenes that are just there to add sex appeal to child characters, it's borderline unplayable. The game is dependent on dialogue choices but you'll often pick the default choice because of the slow nature of the game and how easy it is to accidently mash through a response. I've heard the characters and story are good, too bad I don't have the patience to play what feels like idea factory level of quality.
Tierkreis- This is when they got everything right. Highest amount of playable characters, diverse cast, huge world (for a ds game) voice acting that sounded like a gilmore girls parody, and the game had a great balance that made you actually able use most of your 108. The actual concept of suikoden is also touched on in the game and that makes it a good starting point for a lot of people. My only complaint is the game is a little too smooth and as such can be a bit dull from time to time.

Kinda wanna back the physical version, but I still haven't received the Wonderful 101 copy and the shipping will be handled by the same company.

As a point of reference, Only 21 games have broken $2 million on kickstarter. Eiyuden passed $2 million in less than 2 days. It's currently already at #19 most funded of all time - right behind Wonderful 101.

The only opinions I disagree with are about Tierkreis, IV and V. Suikoden IV's characters and story were a major step back from I-III. And changing from a battle party of 4 to a battle party of 6 doesn't seem like it should make a big difference, but when you have dozens and dozens of playable characters, it really does make a difference.

I felt the same about Tierkreis. The characters and story felt very amateurish and like they were written for kids. They had the depth of a Pokemon game. The 3D models also didn't look great and the game was barely connected to the Suikoden universe. It was a major disappointment.

I loved V. I thought it brought the series back in line with Suikoden III and added to the universe a lot more than IV.

SuiV is very good from what I played (maybe 20 hours), and I would love to get back to it. Had stuff going on my life at the time I played it that held me back.

III is an a time favorite game, almost certainly in my Top 10.

I have barely played I and II because I'm a dirty casual.

IV is a joke.

I upped my pledge to the Physical and Digital tier because I have no idea which platform I'll want to play it on so I'm just choosing both PC and console to be safe. Physical will be console (most likely PS5) and Digital will be PC, which I'm hoping isn't just a steam code or something because I'd rather have it not tied to a Steam account.

lol the new update includes the addition of more super backer rewards, including the ability to have your face put on a rare fish.

The battle system sounds interesting with tactical RPG mechanics like positioning and terrain mattering. That's cool.

there are definitely stretches with no save points and they do suck but not three hours

Right after the elf village burns down and you enter the kobold village.

I mean it's mostly my fault for forgetting how 1 on 1 battles go

They should have absolutely stuck a save point in that dungeon, but yeah, even two hours sounds hyperbolic for that.

I played suikoden 1 like 4 years ago in preparation for suikoden 2. It was way more fun than I expected. Combat sucked but was easy to ignore. The narrative and other gameplay gimmicks were awesome.

Never did end up playing suikoden 2 tho

Like I got the Xbox One version of Bloodstained, and then it came out on GamePass! Or what if Nintendo releases Switch 2/Super Switch? Oof.

And those are just the minigames we know of... And they have a bunch of other sub systems and mechanics in there too. And of course, they have to make the actual game on top of that...
Yeah, this thing is gonna be delayed atleast a year, maybe two even. I think we might aswell prepare for that now already.

Suikoden 1 was a pleasant surprise back when I played it back in 2011. Then I played Suikoden 2 in 2015 and found it slow and underwhelming. Couldn't even finish it.

Yea but they've said that based on what stretch goals are reached that they could hire more staff to make sure the game isn't delayed. That's not to say there's no chance of a delay, but I'm hoping they know exactly what they need to keep their time schedule correct.

When it comes to Kickstarters I rather expect disappointment and then be pleasantly surprised than vice versa.
