Religious Institutions having Tax Free Status

Some people say Religious institutions shouldn't have tax free status, but the way I see it putting taxes on them would restrict and make it harder for people to organize and set up their own establishments, especially poor people. Within reason - gathering a prayer group at a public facility (like a school) starts to impose that religion on others
