Why not?

  • Oversaturated
  • Literally 0% projected job growth
  • Extreme debt for decreasing pay/salary
  • Very metrics based
  • Hours being cut more
  • Residency push
  • Not even a healthcare provider

Could just become a PA or pretty much anything else to make more money for far less schooling and stress.

Also the body that fights for the profession is spineless

Were you the one who told me to drop out and get into PA or Nursing? I'm P3.

No, I'm pretty sure I just told some guy you recommended to go into Pharmacy or nursing to absolutely not take your advice lmao (well, at least the pharmacy side, I didn't say anything about nursing iirc)

I for some reason have a pharmacy tech certificate that I've never used.

Seems like a boring and underpaid job. Being a pharmacist seems pretty awesome though.

Feel like all the good jobs 10 years ago are over saturated because they were touted so much in a falling economy. Add that no one really tells you what life itself is like, and there's huge disappointment.

I remember when I was going through pharmacy school all the teachers and pharmacists were talking about how great the market is and how pharmacies and drug companies gave out crazy bonuses and trips and meals and stuff.

Now youre lucky to get an occasional drug rep meal catered by Olive Garden. Like once a year.

Yeah, residency just isn't feasible for many (especially since there are only so many hospitals and programs) but it looks great for schools and they make it sound like some amazing thing that is more or less going to be required.

Im very thankful that I found work at a sort of local-ish health care company. We have I think about 15 pharmacists hired and on the schedule with usually 5-6 on staff at our one pharmacy and 3-4 at the other. I *usually* get 40+ hours a week and rarely have to skip a lunch unless I work a weekend where its only one pharmacist on staff.

and we seem to keep expanding and hiring more. I hope thats a good sign.

can kinda say the same about dentists, nurses, and for some doctors too

i feel like coders will have the same issue in a few years
I cant necessarily speak for dentists and doctors, but most places around here are really hurting for nurses. There definitely seems to be a shortage. They seem to get paid too little for what they have to do and put up with.

One of my friends is a pharmacist. It's amazing how much knowledge she has, she's helped me study for my pharmacology tests a few times. She hates her job though.

same, only my friend is majorly depressed (like inhibits his function not just feels down).

hes done it for 8 years now, paid off the majority of his debt, and is now getting ready to go back because hes over it enough to change fields.

It's only retail pharmacy that gets a bad rap. I'm a hospital pharmacist (residency, board certified and all that) and the outlook isn't so bad. It's a very different working environment. My wife is also a pharmacist and works at the FDA.

PGY1 is a must nowadays
not sure about PGY2
A PGY2 will basically lock you into whatever specialty area that is. In lieu of a PGY2, I went for the BCPS.
