Bring a container to pour water into and he should be fine. He's not old, I assume.

He's 9, but he was ruled healthier than he actually. He still can go on long walks.

Not on pavement! Put your hands on the pavement and see how it feels.

Yeah put your palm down on the pavement for 10 seconds, if you can't keep it there that long, it's too hot for the dog. If it's grass or dirt it's no problem.

i had to take my dog outside when it got around that temp... if you do take him out. go out but not for very long.
i don't have much of a tolerance for high heat but worry about her since she's getting on in years.

88 should be fine. sidewalks should be cool enough, but as others have said do a hand test on the surface. if you'll be out for more than like 15-20 minutes bring some water. look up signs of heat exhaustion in dogs and pay attention.

I've got a 9 year old dog who is very fluffy and I can take him on walks in 90 plus degree heat. As much as possible, try and keep him on grass. The rough test is to put your palm on the pavement and if it hurts after 3 seconds than it is too hot for your dog.

Dogs have a higher body temperature than we do so they don't perceive heat the same way. Bring water and pay attention to your dogs mannerisms. Take breaks in the shade if necessary, or let them spend a little more time sniffing around and a little less time walking. As long as you're diligent your dog will be fine.

For a little perspective, asphalt thats 135 degrees can fry an egg in 5 minutes."

Wouldn't risk it. Besides, going out of your home should unless you absolutely have to is still a bad idea because of covid.
